In Henderson County, we recognize that all students learn at different levels and need different tools and strategies to be successful. This page is design to offer some strategies and tools to help all students across Henderson County succeed.
Read & Write - This program offers MANY tools to help students. By click on the purple puzzle piece at the top of their screen, they have options to:
Have text read

Screen Mask - only shows on line at a time

Read aloud practice - this will be sent to their teacher for reporting
TextHelp PDF Reader - this tool will read most PDF documents as well as allow students to write/type on a PDF.
To access this tool, open Chrome and it is located at the top of the screen. The icon is show to the right.
Some students need help with writing their responses. An adult can help with this or some students are successful with typing their responses. Students can open a Google Doc on their Chromebook and type their responses. (To open a Google Doc, type docs.new in the web address bar at the top of the screen.)
Students who struggle with typing might find success with Voice Typing their answers in a Google Doc.
To turn on Voice typing :
Open a Google Doc (docs.new)
Click on "Tools"
Click on "Voice Typing"
This will open the Voice Typing Program. To start recording your voice, click the microphone. It will turn read when it's recording. It works best when students speak slowly and clearly.
Desmos is an online calculator tool that has options for:
a basic four function calculator (elementary)
a scientific calculator (middle school)
a graphing calculator (high school)

Chromebooks are great tool for student learning. They contain many accessibility tools to help make what they see on the screen easier for each individual student.

To access the accessibility menu on a Chromebook:
Click on the time in the bottom right corner. (a menu will pop open)
Click on "Accessibility"
Click on the tool you wish to enable.
For some of our students, English is not their first language. They are learning English while learning at a high level.
A great tool to translate an assignment into many languages is Google Translate. https://translate.google.com/
