Individual and group counseling services are provided throughout the school year. Topics include but are not limited to: anger management, social skills, making friends, decision-making, self-esteem, conflict resolution, attendance, goal setting....and much much more.
Guidance lessons are provided throughout the year for all classes. Crayons to College is the program that is currently used, but I am excited to say that the District will be supplying the counselors with the Second Step program which is SEL based (Social/Emotional Learning). I can't wait to utilize this program next school year!
The student leadership at Cawston consists of Student Valet, Peace Patrol, and Kindness Ambassadors. These leadership programs are available to 4th and 5th grade students, except for the Kindness Amabassadors program, that consists on 3rd-5th graders. It's a beautiful sight seeing our little Comets being respectful, responsible, and kind to others.
Comet Club is an attendance incentive program that takes place every Wednesdays in my classroom during their lunch recess. Three students are chosen a week by their teacher for having excellent attendance or improved attendance. The students are given Comet Club passes and get to play games, play with play-doh, make a beaded bracelet and much more. :)
The Welcome Wagon consists of student leadership that welcome the Cawston Comets on the first day of school. Every year for 3 years, the Welcome Wagon and the staff are at the front gate welcoming the students on campus as upbeat music is playing while balloons and banners adorn the fence.
College Kickoff is recognized during the month of October. Every year I collaborate with different people and educational institutions within the county to provide the students at Cawston with a fun experience about college. This includes an assembly with school-wide singing, mascots, the Tahquitz cheerleaders and much more.
Red Ribbon Week is celebrated the last full week in October. Our Cawston Comets have dress-up days and a school-wide assembly every other year.
Cawston Comets celebrated The Great Kindness Challenge this year January 27th-31st. Our Cawston Comets completed 5, 667 Kind Acts!! Woo Hoo way to go Comets!! We also invited the great Tahquitz Jazz band to perform during our assembly. To end that weeks celebration, over 900 students and staff took a picture in the shape of a heart in the middle of the field! What a beautiful and memorable experience!
