My goal is to create a classroom where students feel safe, respected and valued while they are at school. Building relationships with students allows me to ensure that their individual needs are met throughout the year. In order to maintain a positive learning environment for all students, I have clear expectations of each student, and hold them accountable for their actions. My expectations are posted in my room for students to reference throughout the day. These expectations insure that all students feel safe and respected while they are in my classroom. If these expectations are not met, students will be given a consequence:
1. Warning: Students will get a warning and have a conversation about their behavior with me.
2. Detention and Parent Involvement: A phone call or an email will be sent home to the parents regarding student behavior in class. Students will also be given morning detention that day, or the following day.
3. Office Referral: Last resort, students will be removed from the classroom if the refocus form or parent involvement, seems ineffective for dealing with the behavior. It is my goal to resolve all issues within my classroom. However, sometimes extra support is needed. This step is my last resort after exhausting all other options.
Incomplete work becomes homework, and is due to me the next school day! Late work will only receive half credit!
Students' grades are based on demonstrated understanding of specific concepts. Instead of a simple letter, students receive grades on multiple different learning targets and can see which concepts they understand well and which they need to improve on. Below is the scale that will be used to show student understanding of concepts.
4 - Exceeds: Student demonstrates an in-depth understanding of grade level concepts, skills, and processes taught to date and exceeds the expectations of the curriculum.
3 - Meets: Student consistently demonstrates an understanding of grade level concepts, skills, and processes taught to date to meet the expectations of the curriculum.
2 - Progressing: Student demonstrates that he/she is approaching an understanding of grade level concepts, skills, and processes taught to date.
1 - Needs Improvement: Student has not yet demonstrated an understanding of grade level concepts, skills, and processes taught to date and needs consistent support.
