First grade is a busy year and we have lots to learn to continue to set the foundation for your child's education! I will send extra practice pages and a monthly homework challenges page home with your child in their Thursday Folders. I always encourage reading at home together at least 10-15 minutes a night.
Additional "Home-Work"
Read books with your child. Talk about the author, the characters, make predictions, and practice re-telling the story.
Go for a walk and play "I Spy."
Ask your child about the best and hardest parts of their day. How did they work to overcome any challenges?
Eat dinner as a family.
Go to bed early to get a good night's sleep.
Encourage your child to do things that are hard for them because that is how our brain grows. In First Grade we call this a Growth Mindset.
Play outside.
Practice handwriting of letters, numbers, and your child's name if it needs more work.
Your support and involvement in your child's education is greatly appreciated!
Grading: Our Report Card is a standards-based report card. It includes Common Core standards that we teach in first grade. Throughout the year you will be able to see your student's progress towards understanding these standards. Your child will grow so much this year!
