Parents/Guardians and Students must frequently check Infinite Campus for the student's progress in each of their classes. Based on the previous week's assignments, I aim to have my grade book on Infinite Campus updated every Monday/Tuesday. Please do NOT rely on Google Classroom to represent the student's grade, especially for missing assignments. I use Google Classroom as a resource for tasks, materials, notes, due dates, etc. Infinite Campus is where students can see their current grades, missing assignments, and other important details on their academic progress. If you have any questions or concerns about grades in Infinite Campus, please email me.
The school year is broken into four quarters. Students will receive midterm grades for each quarter. Midterm grades serve as a “check-in” to see where students are with success in the course content. The student’s grade at the end of each quarter is their final grade. Quarters 1 and 2 are averaged for a Semester 1 grade, and Quarters 3 and 4 are averaged for a Semester 2 grade.
November 7: End of 1st Quarter
January 30: End of 2nd Quarter
April 10: End of 3rd Quarter
June 10: End of 4th Quarter
If you have any questions or concerns about grades in Infinite Campus, please email me.
Below you will find how participation is earned, the type of classwork you can expect from this course, and how Extra Credit is handled.
Absent Work
When a student is absent, they will have the number of days they miss to complete any missing assignments without any impact on their grade. For example, if a student misses two days of school, they will have two days once they are back to complete the assignments. If the assignments are not submitted by the agreed-upon extension date, the late policy below will apply. This policy applies to quizzes, tests, and major projects as well.
Please note, I teach over 150 students each day and do my very best to keep track of their academic progress. However, middle school students should take responsibility for their school work and develop the skills to communicate their needs, especially when it comes to being absent and needing to collect missed assignments. Middle school is a time to develop ownership and more independence over their academics through self-advocacy and communication with their teachers.
Students need to make a plan with me in advance of planned absences to determine missed tasks and an agreed-upon due date for those tasks. I will collaborate with them to set a plan and a new due date. Once the new due date is set, if an assignment, quiz, or test is turned in later than that date, the late policy will apply.
Late Work
Late work is accepted until the day each quarter ends. *If absences occur in the last week of the quarter, arrangements can be made to turn in assignments only if students contact me immediately or if it is communicated before the absence.
All weekly assignments will be due on Fridays. If assignments are turned in 1 week late, students will lose 10% off the earned grade for that assignment. If assignments are turned in more than a week late, students can receive up to a 70% through the last day of each quarter.
Important note about missing assignments, quizzes, and tests:
When an assignment is marked "missing" in Infinite Campus, it is automatically graded as 0%. If any assigned task is not made up by the grading deadline (end of the quarter) the 0% will remain.
Plagiarism (copying) of any kind will result in a 0% for the assignment. This includes any form of academic dishonesty, as addressed in the 25 - 26 Student Handbook. Students who choose to copy or plagiarize their work will also be referred to our school principal for further discussion and action.
Homework is not assigned in 7th Grade Social Studies. However, if class time is not used well or a student needs additional time on in-class assignments to have them completed by the due date, they will need to work on them outside of class. Additionally, if a student is absent, any make-up work will need to be completed at home or outside of class.
*Textbooks are available to check out, and chapters will be posted on Google Classroom as they are assigned.
Students can earn 3 points each day for participation credit.
Criteria for participation include:
Following along with the lesson, reading, or notes taken
Actively engaging with teachers and peers
Actively working to complete tasks and assignments given in class
Maintaining appropriate behavior
Staying on task and making choices that allow others to stay on task
If students are missing points for participation, they could be:
Repeatedly disrupting class or neighboring classmates
Refusing to complete in-class tasks properly or at all
Showing disrespect for the learning environment, teachers, or peers
Repeatedly off-task
Unprepared for class
*Students do not miss points for being absent; they receive the percentage earned from the days present in class. If you are gone for a whole week, participation will be marked as "Exempt" in Infinite Campus.
There are a variety of assignments, projects, quizzes, and tests students will take throughout the school year that will be the majority of their earned grade for Social Studies. Below you will find the range of points earned based on the type of classwork completed:

There are occasionally extra credit opportunities throughout the school year. These opportunities will be made available to every student and will have due date, or day where the opportunity window closes. After the set date, that extra credit will no longer be available. Please do not reach out for additional extra credit opportunities to bring up your grade, focus on missing assignments and being proactive about your success with current and future classwork.
