SCHOOL DAY
The school day begins at 8:15 am and students are dismissed at 3:00 pm (or 2:00 pm on Thursdays). If your child will be missing school please communicate with me or inform Farah in the front office.
To make pick up easy, I will let students know that they will be picked up outside of Building #1. Students will be walked outside by a teacher and may walk to your car or meet you in the courtyard. This greatly decreases confusion in such a large school at the end of the day. Thank you!
BEHAVIOR
Students are expected to be kind, work hard, respect their peers and teachers, follow directions, and most importantly: have fun! As your child’s teacher, I will work diligently to build relationships, set clear expectations, show enthusiasm, and talk to students who are misbehaving privately. I am a firm believer in positive reinforcement and will always encourage your children to be the best versions of themselves. However, if students are consistently unable to demonstrate appropriate behavior, then natural/logical consequences will be put in place. We are a team and I know all students will have a successful school year if we work together!
COMMUNICATION
We will be using ClassDojo as our main way to stay connected! This platform is a great way for us to communicate about your child’s day, classroom updates, and important information. Please feel free to message me if your child is having a tough day, if you have questions, or if there's anything you'd like me to know- whether it’s injuries, concerns, or just something helpful to share.
I’ll be sending out email invitations to help you get set up on ClassDojo. Once connected, you’ll receive important dates and reminders, school and community events, and more. I’ll also use ClassDojo to reach out when we need volunteers for field trips, classroom celebrations, or to schedule conferences. BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
We love celebrating our classmates’ birthdays! Students are more than welcome to bring a treat on their birthday to share with the class, or toward the end of the school year if they have a summer birthday. We do however ask that the treats are peanut free and store bought food only. At this time, we have 19 students in our classroom, however please bring enough for 20 in case there ends up being extra kiddos! Please email me prior to bringing the treats in to ensure this number is still accurate, to schedule a time to come in and to see if our classroom has any other allergies.
VOLUNTEERS
I’d love to welcome volunteers into our classroom!
Once we’ve established our routines and the students have settled in, I’ll send out a message with opportunities to help out. Thank you in advance for your support- I’m excited to work together this year!
SNACK
Snack time is optional in 2nd grade. If you choose to send a snack please send an easy, healthy snack. Each child is responsible for their own snack every day. PLEASE NO PEANUTS OR PEANUT BUTTER! We have many students with severe allergies, so we ask that you please be careful what you send in. If you are willing to bring in a bulk snack for any students who may forget theirs, we would greatly appreciate it!
SECRET STUDENT
To kick things off, we'll start with our Secret Student activity! Each week, one student will be secretly selected. Throughout the week, they'll have the opportunity to earn the Secret Student title by showing kindness, making good choices, and working hard. The Secret Student will be revealed on Friday, and on Monday, they will get to bring in three special items that represent who they are. They'll have the chance to share their items with the class and explain why each one is meaningful to them. It's a fun way to celebrate each student and get to know one another better!
