Classroom Community & Management Policy
Students and teachers in our classroom think critically and make careful decisions regarding our behaviors.
Our choices are guided by three principles:
1. Be Safe
2. Be Respectful
3. Be a Learner
We will be utilizing a program called PAX in our school this year. PAX is an evidence-based intervention used by teachers as part of our daily management of the classroom. This curriculum is a critical piece in helping young children learn self-management and self-regulation skills, while also promoting effective and appropriate social skills.
Beyond these principles, the regular Hellgate Lower Grades Discipline Policies apply.
Homework Policy
Homework is a constructive tool in the teaching/learning process when it is geared to the needs and abilities of students. Purposeful assignments not only enhance student achievement, but also develop self-discipline and associated good working habits. As an extension of the classroom, homework must be planned and organized, must be viewed as purposeful to the students, and should be evaluated and returned to students in a timely manner.
Teachers may give homework to students to aid in the students' educational development. Homework should be an application or an adaptation of a classroom experience, and should not be assigned for disciplinary purposes.
