Tryouts
For current 9th-11th graders
Tryouts for cheer are conducted in the Spring prior to the new school year and consist of an information meeting, open floor practices, clinic days and the actual tryout.
INFORMATION MEETING (current 9th-11th graders)
This is for mandatory for anyone interested in trying out. You will get all the information you need in order to try out. This includes but not limited to attire, grades, financial and behavior expectations. It will also cover important dates, paperwork required, and much more.
OPEN FLOOR(current 9th-11th graders)
Opportunity for new and returning cheerleaders to learn stunting and basic cheer techniques. Highly recommended for anyone trying out for the first time and for returners to brush up on skills prior to try out week. Attendance is not mandatory but highly encouraged. Open to current Helix students only (no incoming freshman).
TRYOUTS(current 9th-11th graders)
Clinic DAYS 1-3 is where students who are interested in trying out will learn the tryout material. Tryout material has historically included a dance, a cheer, a band dance and a showcase of stunting, jumps, and kicks. Tumbling is not required but highly encouraged. Attendance of every clinic is mandatory in order to tryout.
Tryout DAY 4 is where you perform what you learned at clinic in front of a panel of judges. Typically 2-3 people at a time.
*ATTIRE REQUIREMENTS*
(no nails, no jewelry, hair up and out of face, athletic shoes)
Clinic Day 1-Gray shirt and black shorts
Clinic Day 2-Green shirt and gray shorts
Clinic Day 3-White shirt and black shorts
Tryout Day 4-Green shirt and black shorts (full glam makeup with red lipstick. Makeup is only required on tryout day 4-Bow may be worn but not required)
Clinic 1-3 will take place outside by the weight room.
Tryout day will take place in the gym.
Results will be posted on our website as well as on Instagram by Monday May 6th.
TRYOUT TIME SLOTS (current 9th-11th graders)
Please show up 15 minutes before your grade level tryout otherwise you will not be able to tryout.
You may leave after your tryout, however EVERYONE needs to be back at 2pm for stunting and expect to stay until 430pm if necessary for callbacks.
ENSURE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT ATTIRE WITH MAKEUP AND RED LIPSTICK. (you may wear a bow if you would like)

What You Need to Try Out
An active physical signed by a licensed physician click here to get the FORM (bring a copy to day 1 of clinic)
A signed handbook. Make a copy and sign on the last page. PLEASE READ THE CHEER HANDBOOK CAREFULLY WITH YOUR STUDENT BEFORE SIGNING THE FORMS. (submission link for signed handbook )
TWO teacher recommendations (teacher fills out this form)
A copy of your current GPA (bring a copy to day 1 of clinic)
