Much to my surprise, over the past decade I've become a writer of fiction. My first book is Outrage in Ohio: A Rural Murder, Lynching, and Mystery, published by Indiana University Press.
That project began with a note my father received from a distant cousin when he began to dig into his Kimmel genealogy. It seems our family was involved in a murder and double-lynching back in 1872, and one of the lynched parties was my great, great, great, great uncle.
Well, a story like that is definitely worth checking out, and 22 years and two sabbatical leaves later I produced a book that explores the murder-lynching through a hybrid mixture of historical narrative, personal narrative, historical documents, and historical fiction.
I have a great deal more information about Outrage in Ohio, including some exclusive unpublished "extras" from an earlier version of the book, right here.
