HEBRON MUSICAL FEST : BATTLE OF BANDS - SEASON 3
Siliguri, September 22 : Music is a language that transcends unspoken and unheard emotions that resonates in millions of hearts. It is nothing less than a therapy for composers, vocalists, musicians, and listeners. With the vision of connecting young music lovers, Hebron School, New Rangia, has been organising Battle of Bands for the past three years, igniting student's love for music. This is an event that brings young music enthusiasts together to showcase their talent, teamwork and perseverance. The school provides a unique platform for all participants to join the vibrant stage, perform, gain experiences while creating lasting memories.
Hebron School, New Rangia hosted its third season on 20th September, 2025 with 10 schools from in and around North Bengal comprising 12 bands with 2 bands each from Hebron School, New Rangia and Hebron English School, Bagdogra competing for the coveted champions trophy. The rocking and electrifying performances kept the audience enthralled throughout the event. The sensational performances reflected the teamwork, devotion and passion carried by each band members. From classic rock to indie, fusion and soulful ballads, each band showcased their originality, technical skill and passion for music. As Hans Christian Andersen said “Where words fail, music speaks”, every note and rhythm carried sentiments conveying their dreams and aspirations to be the champions.
The event was graced by the presence of respected dignitaries including Reverend Mammen Joseph, Director of Hebron School, New Rangia, Mrs. Alice Mammen, founder of Hebron School, New Rangia, Mr. Moncy Mammen, Chairman of Hebron School, New Rangia, Mrs. Jemeema Philipose, Principal of Hebron School, New Rangia, Mrs. Jayanti Das, Vice-Principal of Hebron School, New Rangia, Mrs. Debika Thapa Naidu, Headmistress of Hebron School, New Rangia, Mr. Anu Peter, Principal of Hebron English School, Bagdogra and Mrs. Beas Paul Choudhary, Director of Father Leblond School whose support and encouragement added to the significance of the occasion.
The event was judged by an esteemed panel of musical professionals who brought with them a wealth of experience and an ear for originality and true musical talent. The judges were :
1. Mr. Abhishek Lemo Gurung who is a renowned singer - songwriter and frontman of bands like Gingerfeet and Still Waters. He has performed at major festivals such as The the Hornbill Rock Contest in 2011. A co-founder of the Pine Tree Festival, he was also a finalist on Colors Infinity’s “The Stage” Season 2 in the year 2016 among many other accomplishments. Great Indian Rock, Ziro Festival, and the South Asian Games, 2016 and was awarded Best Vocalist at the Hornbill Rock Contest in 2011. A co-founder of the Pine Tree Festival, he was also a finalist on Colors Infinity’s “The Stage” Season 2 in the year 2016 among many other accomplishments.
2. Mr. Abhishek Gahatraj who is a trained violinist and music educator from Kurseong. A Trinity College London Grade 8 violinist, he also holds ABRSM certifications in classical guitar and music theory. He has performed at events like the Strings Tour 2015, trained in conducting and singing from Sing for Please UK comes to India in 2019, and managed the Trinity Day Celebrations 2025 in India. He currently runs the Andante School of Music in Siliguri, a registered Trinity exam centre along with several other contributions to music education across the region.
To ensure fairness and spontaneity, the performance sequence was decided by the judges through a chit system conducted just before the commencement of the programme. This added an element of surprise, as neither the audience nor the participants knew which band would take the stage next. The order of performances were revealed one act at a time, keeping the suspense alive and the excitement building throughout the event.

The rules were simple yet challenging as each band was given 10 minutes to set up their instruments and perform two songs : one in a Regional Language and one in English. This format not only tested their musical range but also celebrated the diversity of music in the present culture.
The event began with a heartfelt prayer, invoking blessings and gratitude to God. Following this, the Chairman of Hebron School, New Rangia, Mr. Moncy Mammen, addressed the gathering and clearly explained the format of the competition. The event was then seamlessly carried forward by the dynamic anchors, Miss. Shivani Panchakoti and Mrs. Lila Rai Biswas, whose energy and enthusiasm kept the audience engaged throughout. Each band delivered a powerful performance, and the vibrant atmosphere in the school auditorium never wavered.
Audience favourites included powerful renditions of “Sweet Child O’ Mine” by the legendary band, Guns N’ Roses, “Socha Hai” from the musically iconic film, Rock On, sung by Farhan Akhtar and a high-octane performance of “The Final Countdown”, the rock anthem by Europe.
The performers also captivated the audience with a soulful cover of “Luka Chhupi” the timeless song by Maestro A.R. Rahman and eminent vocalist Lata Mangeshkar Ji, as well as “Sanskriti” by the acclaimed Mantra Band, among many other memorable numbers.
Following the final performance by Hebron School, New Rangia (Group A), the judges took the stage to share their feedback, offering words of encouragement and appreciation for the budding artists. Their insights were both inspiring and uplifting.
The afternoon continued with a special performance by the teachers, Mr. Rana and Mr. Arbin of Hebron English School, Bagdogra, followed by a lively performance by Mrs. Ranita Das and further balanced by a soft cover by Mrs. Antara Bhattacharjee, both from Hebron School, New Rangia adding a graceful close to the segment.
The event culminated in a much-anticipated award ceremony, where the outstanding efforts and talents of the participants' bands were recognised. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and pride as the winners were announced in various categories, including Best showmanship, best keyboardist, best unique instrument, most entertaining band, and more.
The championship title of the Battle of the Bands - Season 3 was proudly bagged by Hebron English School, Bagdogra (Senior Group).
St. Xavier’s School, Siliguri secured the First Runner-Up position followed by G.D. Goenka Public School, Siliguri as the Second Runner-Up.
In addition to the championship titles, several individual and group awards were presented. 1. Best Showmanship : (Bassist) Darjeeling Public School, Siliguri. 2. Best Keyboardist : Hebron English School, Bagdogra (Seniors). 3. Best Vocalist : Delhi Public School, Dooars.
4. Best Bassist : Sri Sri Academy, Siliguri.
5. Best Guitarist : G.D. Goenka Public School, Siliguri.
6. Best Drummer : Father Leblond School, Bidhan Nagar.
7. Best Unique Instrument : (Flute) Hebron English School, Bagdogra. 8. Most Entertaining Band : Rose Bud Academy, Kalimpong.
The event drew to a close with a graceful vote of thanks delivered by the Headmistress, Mrs. Debika Thapa Naidu of Hebron School, New Rangia, who showered gratitude to the dignitaries, judges, participating schools, staff members, audience and everyone who contributed to the success of Battle of Bands - Season 3. Her words reflected appreciation, encouragement, and pride in the young talents showcased throughout the day.
The event was a resounding success, achieving its primary goal of promoting music and talent, fostering a spirit of healthy competition and providing an afternoon of entertainment for all the students and staff.
Battle of Bands - Season 3 stood as a testament to the musical potential of young minds and the power of collaborative expression. With hearts full of joy, everyone left inspired, eagerly anticipating Battle of Bands - Season 4.

One of the key features of language is that it is universal. People from all over the world can communicate with each other through music, even if they speak different languages. Music is also universal in this sense. People from all cultures can enjoy music, even if they don't understand the specific meaning of a particular piece of music.
To Motivate and Inspire: Music competitions can provide students with a goal to work towards and motivate them to practice and improve their skills.
A Platform for Performance experience: Music competitions give students the opportunity to perform in front of an audience and receive feedback from judges. This experience can help them to develop their confidence and stage presence.
A Platform for Creative expression: Music competitions provide students with a platform to express their creativity and share their music with others.
A Platform for Social interaction: Music competitions can be a great way for students to meet other musicians and make new friends.
Rules and Guidelines
Band Members
Each band can consist of -
> A minimum of 3 students
> A maximum of 9 students
Performance Requirement
Each band must perform 2 songs:
> 1 English Song
> 1 Hindi or Regional Song
Time Limitation
> Performance time : 10 mins
> Set-up time : 7 mins
> Total time : 17 mins

> Electric Guitars (3 nos.)
> Bass Guitar (1 nos.)
> Drum Kit (1 nos.)
> Digital Keyboard I-455 (1 nos.)
Genre
> Songs can be from any genre: rock, classic rock, pop, hip-hop, funk, fusion, blues, reggae, jazz, dance
> Avoid metal and hard rock songs
Participation Guidelines
> An individual is permitted to participate in a single band only
> Each school may register a maximum of two bands for the competition. If a school registers only one band, then only that band will be allowed to perform. In case a school wishes to send two bands, each band must be registered separately.
Please Note :
a. Individual participants are allowed to bring their own instruments.
b. Programming is not allowed. (Pre-recorded loops, backing tracks, usage of laptop and similar techniques are prohibited and will lead to disqualification.)
c. The participating school must take responsibility of travel to the venue and/or outstation stay.
d. The participating school must provide the tech-rider/requirements of each participating band at least one week before the event.

Anmol Lomzail, a versatile guitar player, music producer, arranger, composer, recording artist, and mixing engineer, hails from the beautiful hills of Darjeeling. Currently based in Mumbai, Anmol has carved a niche for himself in the music industry, collaborating with renowned artists like Mohit Chauhan and Jubin Nautiyal. His remarkable talent has also seen him share the stage and studio with several iconic names from Bollywood's music scene, including Gajendra Verma, Lucky Ali, Kailash Kher, Alisha Chinai, and many more.
With an illustrious career spanning numerous national and international shows, Anmol has not only showcased his skills on diverse musical projects but has also earned accolades, including the title of Best Guitar Player in several prestigious national and local band competitions.
Currently working as a freelance guitar player and touring musician, Anmol continues to travel extensively across India and abroad, captivating audiences with his soulful performances. He is actively involved with independent bands such as Meraki, Chromatic, and Head Motif from Darjeeling, further cementing his position as a dynamic force in the contemporary music scene.
Salim John Sadiq

Salim John Sadiq, hailing from Siliguri, stands out as a unique talent in the realms of jazz, blues, and rock. Known for his innovative improvisations, soulful vocals, and exceptional guitar skills, Salim has carved a niche for himself in the Indian music scene. As the frontman of The John Blues Ensemble, he has graced stages nationwide, including a notable performance at NCPA Mumbai.

Currently, Salim continues to captivate audiences while performing with The John Blues Ensemble.
Salim’s association with MO2 (MusicoXide), a renowned rock band blending blues, jazz, and Latin elements, brought him immense recognition. Formed in 2004 as a collective of like-minded musicians, MO2 quickly became a hit on the local music circuit. Their tight sound and diverse compositions set them apart, garnering both popular and critical acclaim.
MO2’s standout tracks, such as “Kaalo Hritpinday”, “Kano Kadi Bare, Bare”, and “Kothin Somoy”, remain crowd favorites. Their repertoire includes English originals and soulful covers of legendary artists like Deep Purple, Santana, CCR, Bon Jovi, Robert Cray, and BB King, alongside Bengali hits.
With his passion for blending genres and his deep-rooted love for music, Salim John Sadiq continues to inspire audiences, leaving a lasting mark on the Indian musical landscape.
Principal, Martha Tholmit Khaling School (MTKS), Rangia
Samar Francis Khaling Borges brings a wealth of diverse professional experience and a passion for education to his role as the Principal of Martha Tholmit Khaling School. With a background spanning legal, humanitarian, and educational fields, he has dedicated himself to empowering young minds and fostering holistic development.
His career began with prestigious internships at the UNHCR Delhi (Legal Cell), Supreme Court of India (Additional Solicitor General's Office), and ITC Kolkata’s Corporate Legal Department. He further honed his skills as a Project Assistant at the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative in Delhi, followed by roles as Fundraising Manager for LEPRA UK and Project Manager at Shanti International, UK.
In 2011, Samar joined MTKS as an Assistant Teacher, steadily progressing to Administrator in 2017 and Principal in 2024. His dedication to nurturing academic excellence, leadership, and creativity reflects his commitment to advancing education in the region.
Beyond his professional journey, Samar has a deep connection to music. A former student of Mount Hermon School, he excelled in violin, passing the Trinity College of Music Initial Grade with distinction, and actively participated in the school choir and productions such as Joseph and His Multi-Coloured Coat. During his law school years at NALSAR University, he co-founded the Civil Wrongs rock band, performing at numerous college festivals.
With his rich professional experience and multifaceted talents, Samar Francis Khaling Borges leads MTKS with vision, dedication, and a commitment to excellence.

Savio John is a well known Professional Musician. Specifically a Singer-Songwriter and Guitarist. He has been performing since a very young age and has toured multiple cities performing in various venues. He is also a Gospel Musician and has featured on multiple TV shows. He is currently working with Torrins Music, India, as the Director: Learning & Innovation. Since the past 10 years, he has been working with Institutions engaged in Education handling Business Development, Learning & Development, Strategy and Implementation. Savio has always been vocal about making Music a compulsory subject in schools as the creativity, discipline and communication that it demands would help students become better individuals. Savio has authored the Vocal Curriculum for Torrins and also conducts Vocal Workshops across various schools.
Uday Iyer AKA UD, the former vocalist of Agni, the voice behind the iconic song Tandav, a voiceover and theatre artist, and a communication skills expert catering his services to many who need it the most.
Quitting his high paying corporate world after 22 years, UD follows his passion for teaching, singing, motorcycling and wildlife full time today.
15 years of hardcore communication skills training, covering Verbal and Non Verbal Communication skills for more than 5000 students till date, UD has also taught verbal reasoning for GMAT, GRE and SAT for good 5 years.
UD is the title winner of the SUPERSPEAKER Season 2, a prestigious reality show to find the best speaker in the country. And Uday won the title from among 2,15,000 entries.
Along with his band, scHwa, UD has recently released three singles titled Rudrabal, Mother's Instinct, and Everything Searches For Something on 150 platforms, along with two quite successful lyric videos on YouTube.
At present, UD is devoted in enhancing communication skills of those who need it the most through invaluable communication skills courses available online.
