IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD
The Hebron Community Garden provides a tangible way to share our land with neighbors. Local individuals work together to plant and harvest the garden to grow vegetables for their families. If you are interested in connecting with the gardeners, contact the church office.
The Little Free Library and the Blessing Food Box are available outside the church as small ways to share with our immediate community.
IN OUR CITY
REACH (Religious Effort to Assist and Care for the Homeless) is a non-profit organization located in Hagerstown which serves local residents with 24-hour crisis services, financial education, support groups, and cold weather shelter during winter months. Hebron members were part of the original founding group for REACH and continue to support and volunteer with this important local ministry.
Hagerstown Area Religious Council (HARC) is a coalition of houses of faith in Washington County. Its mission is to "embody mercy, justice, and love as diverse faith partners." HARC connects faith communities, providing opportunities for learning and for working together to serve our local community. Out of this cooperation has come Micah's Backpack - which provides weekend lunches for food-insecure children, the Refugee Welcome Network - which helps newly arrived refugees, a faith-leaders support group, and much more.
AND BEYOND
Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) works for relief, development, and peace around the world in many ways (too many to name here). Hebron participates in assembling relief/school/hygiene kits and sometimes their meat canning program.
Mennonite Mission Network (MMN) is a mission agency of Mennonite Church USA that includes a variety voluntary service programs for people of all ages, locally and around the world. MMN believes in the mutuality of mission - that as we serve and minister to others, we also learn and are served and ministered to.
Sister Care is a ministry of Mennonite Women USA that has run seminars in the United States and internationally. Sister Care provides women with tools for ongoing personal healing and for responding more effectively to the needs of others. Rhoda Keener served as the Sister Care Director for Mennonite Women USA and traveled to many countries to help lead programing.
Community Cloud Forest Conservation (CCFC) in Guatemala is run by Rob and Tara Cahill. CCFC alleviates poverty and protects forests through education, reforestation, sustainable development, leadership training, and ecological improvements to agriculture. CCFC believes that holistic human community development through education and capacity building is the key to conservation and development in Guatemala’s central highlands. Education, especially for young women, is key to building peace in this region. A number of persons from Hebron have visited this ministry and participated in work teams.
Christ House in Washington DC provides wholistic care to homeless men with acute or chronic medical needs. Christ House's founders were members of Hebron before moving to DC to begin this ministry.
Everence is a faith-based financial services organization serving Mennonite Church USA and others.
