Hebron Mennonite Church's Mission and Outreach Involvements


REACH - Religious Effort to Assist and Care for the Homeless is a faith-based, non-profit organization located in Hagerstown which serves local residents with 24-hour crisis services, financial education, Open Table support groups, and cold weather shelter. Many people from Hebron volunteer at the cold weather shelter each year. Hebron members were part of the original founding group for REACH. http://reachofwc.org

The Hebron Community Garden provides a tangible way to share our land with neighbors. Local people work together to plant and harvest the garden to grow vegetables for their families. If you are interested in connecting with the gardeners contact the church office.

The Little Free Library and the Blessing Food Box are placed outside the church to share with the community.

Hagerstown Area Religious Council (HARC) is a cooperative ministry of the faith community in Washington County. Its mission is to embody mercy, justice, and love as diverse faith partners. HARC:

Sister Care seminars are a ministry of Mennonite Women USA and have been shared in 21 countries. Sister Care: Equipping Women for Healing Ministry provides women with tools for ongoing personal healing and for responding more effectively to the needs of others. Rob and Tara Cahill for Community Cloud Forest Conservation (CCFC) in Guatemala. CCFC alleviates poverty and protects forests through education, reforestation, sustainable development, leadership training, and ecological improvements to agriculture. CCFC believes that holistic human community development through education and capacity building is the key to conservation and development in Guatemala’s central highlands. Education, especially for young women, is key to building peace in this region. A number of persons from Hebron have visited this ministry and participated in work teams. Christ House (and Kairos) provide comprehensive and compassionate care to sick, homeless men in Washington DC, and assist in addressing critical issues to help break the cycle of homelessness. Christ House provides a homeless shelter with treatment for patients with chronic illnesses who decide to make a commitment to their own recovery. Several of Hebron’s founding members were instrumental in starting this ministry. http://christhouse.org

Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) provides relief, development, and peace in the name of Christ. Hebron participates in meat canning and provides school, health, and hygiene kits. www.mcc.org
