AP World History: Modern

Summer Head Start

Welcome to Trinity Advanced Placement History! Over the course of the school year, we will explore Modern Human History, learn valuable skills, and take AP Exams in World History and European History. These are exciting classes that will allow us to look at the big picture of history, trace cultures over time, and examine human interactions.

Since these are possibly your first AP classes, you will need to stay focused and work diligently. In August, we will discuss specific requirements for the classes and the AP Exam. For now, it is suggested that you complete the following summer optional activities. The purpose of these Classical Era assignments is to give us a historical frame of reference to connect the past to present events and trends.

If you have any questions feel free to email: JosephNicholas@HEBISD.edu or AubreyWilliams@HEBISD.edu.

What else can I do to help myself be successful? Enroll in AP European History third trimester. This will give you an additional AP course (6.0 GPA bump), but it does so much more than that. AP Euro is focused on European art and history. Students who take both courses see improved scores in AP World History (Euro is tested first, and World is typically about a week later) and can potentially earn up to 6 credit hours for college. Not only that, but taking European History third trimester gives students an entire YEAR of content related to both courses, which aids in student success. The material in AP European History also serves as a review for some of the content from AP Modern World History that has not been reviewed since much earlier in the year.

If you are not already enrolled in AP European History third trimester, talk to your parents about it and contact your counselor if you’re interested. We will focus on skills and practice, but also have a lot of fun. Euro is a challenge; the information covered goes deeper that AP World History, but it is truly beneficial to students who are continuing in the AP track or are going into the IB program.
