Mrs. Harston
Gina Harston is beginning her 23rd year of teaching and her 11th year at Hurst Junior High. Mrs. Harston has taught at the high school, middle school and junior high levels in various districts throughout the DFW metroplex. Under her direction, the Hurst JH choirs have been consistent Sweepstakes recipients at UIL contest. Hurst JH students have also been placed in the Region V and Region 31 honor choirs. She has also served as a Texas Music Educator Association MS/JH Secretary for TMEA Region 5 and 31, Alto section leader and Honor Choir coordinator for Region 31.
Ms. Harston received her Bachelor of Music degree from Texas Woman’s University in Denton and is currently working on her Masters Degree in Special Education. She was a member of the TMEA All State Choir and has performed with the NE Texas Community Chorus. Ms. Harston has served as the director of musicals and show choirs throughout her career.
Mrs. Harston is a member of Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Choral Directors Association, and Sigma Alpha Iota. She currently directs her church choir and enjoys spending time with her family. Mrs. Harston just celebrated her 16th wedding anniversary with her husband Chris. They have two adorable daughters, Abigail who starts kindergarten this Fall, and Naomi who will be three in October.
Julie Moore retired from teaching choir full time after 29 years at Colleyville Middle School in Grapevine Colleyville ISD, and is beginning her 6th year assisting choirs at Hurst Junior High School. Under her direction, the Colleyville choirs were consistent Sweepstakes recipients at UIL contest as well as local festivals. The Colleyville choirs brought home numerous Best in Class awards from Sandy Lake, Hurricane Harbor, and Director’s Choice festivals in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. She was the fine arts department chair at CMS and the district’s MS Choir coordinator.
Ms. Moore received her Bachelor of Music degree from Hardin Simmons University in Abilene and did graduate work at Texas Christian University. She was a member of the TMEA All State Choir and has performed with the Irving Chorale, NE Texas Community Chorus, Fort Worth Chorale/ Schola Cantorum of Texas, the Robert Shaw Festival Chorus in Carnegie Hall, and Voci d’Amici. She is a frequent UIL judge, and conducts All Region choirs and honor choirs around the state. She has also conducted a session at the TCDA Winter conference and served as the chairperson for the TCDA Scholarship Committee.
Ms. Moore is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, American Choral Director’s Association, Texas Choral Director’s Association, and Texas Music Adjudicator’s Association. She enjoys singing in her church choir and traveling. She has 2 lovely daughters, Megan who is a graduate of William Jewell College in Liberty, MO and lives in Kansas City, and Amanda who is a graduate of Howard Payne University in Brownwood, TX and teaches Kindergarten in HEB ISD.
