The Concert Band at Euless Junior High consists primarily of 8th and 9th grade students. As the second performing band at Euless, all students are expected to practice on their own 5-6 times a week and are encouraged to enhance their musical success through participation in the private lesson program. Per our Performing Arts curriculum, all performances at concerts and football games are required and graded, as well as the HEB Ensemble Contest in February and our UIL Contest in April.

Performing Band vs. Beginning Band
Below are the goals and expectations of every member of the Concert 1 Band. To understand how to prepare for and measure success, one must understand the difference in curriculum between a beginning band and a performing band.
In beginning band, all instruction is geared towards the individual player. Beginner curriculum consists of goals such as tone production, posture, hand position, intonation, as well as every note, rhythm, articulation, and musical concept that will be necessary to perform the music in Symphonic and Concert 1 Band.
In a performing band, we build on the afore-mentioned individual curriculum to move towards group goals and curriculum. Simply put, Concert 1 Band rehearsal is not for teaching notes and rhythms; those have already been taught in the beginning band curriculum. Instead, we work on matching style and articulation, group and section dynamics and how it pertains to balance and blend of the ensemble.
In Concert 1 Band, objective sheets and scale pass-off charts are used to help the students keep track of their progress.
Objectives and Homework Assignments:
For every six weeks grading period, playing assignments will be given and assessed as a test grade in rehearsals and sectionals. All students have an objective sheet in their band binder which lists their scheduled playing tests.
While test grades are evaluated by Mrs. Fletcher, they should not be the only assignment considered when practicing. Each day, every Concert 1 Band member should come to rehearsal prepared and able to play their band music. If a student cannot play their assigned part, it negatively impacts the group and prevents us from reaching our goal. If there are notes, rhythms, or any other musical concept that a student is confused about, Mrs. Fletcher is available after school for help sessions.
Mrs. Fletcher expects Concert 1 Band members to practice 5-6 times per week. If taking your instrument to and from school everyday is inconvenient, students are welcome to come in before or after school to practice in a practice room. Otherwise, students need to take their instrument home on a daily basis. The band hall is open daily from 7:00am to 4:30pm for practicing.
Concert 1 Band Required Supplies and Materials:
Every day, Concert 1 Band members are required to have their instrument, necessary accessories (reeds, oil, grease, etc.), band binder, pencil, and music in a sheet protector.
