About Mrs. Hernandez

In May 2000, I obtained my Bachelors of Science in Neuroscience from Texas Christian University. While at Texas Christian University, I had the opportunity to do brain research and examine a variety of chemical pathways in several neurological systems. Shortly after finishing my Bachelors I decided to do research. The University of North Texas Health Science Center allowed me to fulfill my desire to do research by allowing me to work with the Physiology department doing cardiac research. During my research opportunity I learned how to make flow probes and do Lowry protein assays. It was not long before I realized that I missed the school environment and I decided to go back to school for my Masters in Education at the University of Texas at Arlington.  I chose to obtain my Masters in Education because I had always loved the thrill of teaching others what I had learned. I was fascinated by the world of science! In August 2002, I received my Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction degree.  My initial certification was in Psychology 6-12 and I pursued my certification in Biology 6-12 shortly after.  Later I received my certification in Physical Science 8-12.  Most recently I realized the need to further my certifications in order to achieve my dream (of teaching in HEB ISD) and I chose to take the Composite Science 4-8 and 8-12. I am currently certified to teach all levels of science 4-12. I will continue to actively pursue my education because I feel it is a vital part of continuing to grow as an educator.

I am thrilled to join the L.D. Bell Blue Raider Faculty for a sixteenth year and I look forward to teaching a variety of levels of Physics for many years to come at L.D. Bell.  My love for science is not limited and I enjoy teaching all sciences. Hopefully my love for physics will inspire my students.  My passion is one asset that I hope to bring into my classroom.

I believe in several philosophies in my classroom and they include the following: (1)  I believe that I learn as much from my students as they learn from me and therefore learning in the classroom goes both ways; (2)  All expectations should be clear to students and not invisible; (3) High expectations get higher results; (4) Showing up is only half of the battle and is is absolutely necessary for learning; and (5) Everyone has problems, so lets focus on the solution.  My policy is to keep an open door for both parents and students to approach me in regard to academic progress and I hope that we will have a very successful year.

I am married to a wonderful man, Pedro Guillermo Hernandez.  My husband, Pedro, is from Puerto Rico and he moved here about 38 years ago to learn English. Pedro has been a big supporter of my research, teaching, and my long-term education goals.  We have now been married twenty one and a half years and are still very much in love with one another.
