This course will provide the student with an opportunity to obtain the necessary training, skills, and knowledge needed to become proficient at performing Patient Care Technician (PCT) duties and responsibilities. The goal is to provide students with both classroom and clinical experiences to successfully pass the Certified Patient Care Technician Examination and the EKG Technician Certification sponsored by the National Health career Association.
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) assists doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals provide patient care in a variety of healthcare environments. Students will have the opportunity to learn skills including obtaining vital signs, performing EKGs, identifying basic EKG rhythms, collecting laboratory specimens, and providing patients with basic needs.
Students will be eligible to take a National Certification exam to become a Certified Patient Care Technician upon successful completion of the class.
This is a fast paced class as we will cover a variety of essential skills prior to placing students in the clinical area. Students must demonstrate proficient basic patient care duties and excellent communication skills prior to beginning rotations at Texas Health HEB Hospital.
