My name is Amber Pickens, and I’m so excited to welcome you to our class. This is my 7th year teaching Family and Consumer Sciences here at Hurst Junior High in HEB ISD. I truly love what I do, and I don’t take my job as a teacher lightly.

I graduated from Arkansas Tech University with a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and from the University of Central Arkansas with a Master of Science degree. I am proud to be a product of Head Start, a program that helps young children and families. After graduating, I returned to Head Start as the Lead Infant and Toddler Teacher, serving seasonal migrant families. That job was a blessing, and I enjoyed every day.

In my classroom, I teach the whole child. I believe you have to reach a student’s heart before you can teach their mind. Every student here is valued, supported, and encouraged to do their best. It truly takes a village, and I’m honored to be part of that village for your child.

When I’m not teaching, I love spending time at home with my daughter, lighting candles and relaxing, working out, practicing archery, and enjoying good food.
