While this CAN be done by yourself, the question is if it SHOULD be. Most of the skills involved are pretty specific to refinishing. It is very different from painting. Most of the products that are readily available are not high enough quality to make the job look the way it should and last as long as it should. It takes more time and costs more money to fix a DIY job gone wrong than to just have it done right the first time. It's better to avoid the headache, expense, downtime and stress of a failed job.
If you care for the surface properly you should get more than 10 years out of it.
Bathtubs, kitchen counters, showers and vanities have a 5 year adhesion warranty*. Repairs have a 1 year warranty unless otherwise specified and noted upon inspection. Bathing safety steps also have a 1 year installation warranty.
*the average life of a refinished surface is between 2-3 years if done by those that don't know the correct process
Do not allow the surface to remain continually wet. Continuously dripping water will void the warranty. Clean only with non-abrasive cleaners (Formula 409, Meyers, Simple Green, dish soap, etc.) and non-bleach cleaners. Use a sponge or washcloth if scrubbing is needed. For additional protection you can wax the vertical surfaces using car wax.
Porcelain, fiberglass, acrylic, formica, granite, quartz, tile, corian and cultured marble.
Plastic cannot be refinished. The coating is not guaranteed to adhere to it.
There will be dust but most of the time it is minimal, normal construction dust. The product smell is similar to that of a strong nail salon. It will mostly dissipate after about 24 hours. If you're very sensitive to odors it might be a good idea to find different accommodations for the night following the majority of the refinishing. While spraying the product there will be a large vent fan being used to ventilate the overspray and/or dust outside.
You will be sent an e-sign document to your email to complete, or if you accept during an in-person visit, you can sign then. There is a 25% deposit required to schedule the project so the product can be ordered and dates can be discussed.
Any cancellation or rescheduling needs to be given at least 48 business hours in advance of the project start date. If the project needs to be rescheduled and it is within 48 business hours of the project start time and date, a rescheduling fee of $100 will be charged. If a project is cancelled within 48 hours of the project start then the deposit will not be refunded.
