The Emergent Lesson Plans are organized by linkage levels (Initial Precursor and Distal Precursor) and by grade level bands: K-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Teachers should select lesson plans from the students' true grade level band at their current instructional level (initial or distal).
Expected outcomes at the Initial Precursor level are increased attention, engagement, communication attempts, and interest in the math tools used during the lessons and routines.
Expected outcomes at the Distal Precursor level are increases in the duration of attention and engagement, frequency of communication attempts, and attempts at using math tools during the lessons and routines.
The set/separateness lesson plans instruct students on the concepts of object permanance, quantities of some and subsets of quantities, understanding of enclosures, and combining and comparing sets at the initial precursor level. At the distal precursor level, students work on counting, combining, and comparing sets, partitioning sets and shapes, modeling equal sets, modeling and representing repeated addition, demonstrating the concept of subtraction, representing and solving repeated addition and repeated subtraction with models, and understanding foundational place value concepts.
