Key Information

Core mathematics is a one year, Level 3 qualification designed for students who wish to develop their practical mathematics skills to benefit them in study, work and everyday life. The AQA Mathematical Studies is an opportunity for students to study mathematics at a higher level in a way that will support and compliment other subjects, whilst gaining a robust AS qualification in its own right. The course has been developed with employers, universities and professional bodies as valuable preparation for higher education and employment. Mathematical Studies is a linear course meaning that it is assessed by examination only at the end of the academic year. It is open to both Year 12 and 13.

A summary of the content is given below:

Compulsory content: Analysis of data; Maths for personal finance; estimation; critical analysis of given data models

Optional content: The normal distribution; probabilities and estimation; correlation and regression; critical path analysis; expectation; cost benefit analysis; graphical methods.
