A multi-tiered system of supports for behavior (MTSS-B) involves an integrated range of strategies, resources and interventions designed to support students' readiness to learn by addressing their social, emotional and behavioral needs.

Research-based and Evidence-based practices: using strategies and interventions that have been proven through research to effectively support students' readiness to learn through addressing their social, emotional and behavioral needs
Shared leadership and collaboration: involving all stakeholders in the process of identifying and prioritizing needs, making decisions and evaluating effectiveness
Universal screening and progress monitoring: using research-based methods to screen student needs, monitor their progress to the interventions provided, and guide decisions about "what to do next"
