The Forest of Reading
Thank you to the Halton Learning Foundation for awarding Tom Thomson a grant to purchase books celebrating Indigenous Voices! Check out the new books here.
We are proud to share the successful application of the Halton Learning Foundation Grant.
Thanks to generous supporters, we are able to purchase a variety of books that share and explore the cultures and stories of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities. A key focus was ensuring positive and inclusive representation. The expanded collection includes books by Indigenous authors and illustrators so that we can provide authentic, accurate representation that dismantles harmful stereotypes and promotes cultural diversity and historical truth. These thoughtfully selected, age-appropriate titles offer students enjoyable stories that foster understanding, encourage open conversation, and inspire environmental stewardship in non-Indigenous students, while cultivating a profound sense of identity, pride, and belonging for Indigenous youth.
This project represents a meaningful step toward creating a more inclusive, supportive, and responsive learning environment for our school community.
Thank you Halton Learning Foundation!
