Students are welcome to purchase a copy (in English or French) or borrow from a Library if they would like to follow along with the text.

Learning Goals and Expectations TERM 1:

Reading:

Grade 5s

    • should be reading at level 22 at the beginning of Grade 5

    • Should be reading at a level 25 by February

    • Should be reading at a level 27 by June

    • comprehension strategy: Summaries vs Retell/Recount)


Writing:

Grade 5s

    • uses correct punctuation (e.g., periods, capitals, commas etc.), correct spelling of familiar words and no English

    • uses the appropriate learning tools to search for new French Vocabulary (e.g., Reverso, WordReference, Dictionaries)

    • communicates ideas in a clear and organized way

    • Writing style: Short Stories and Informational--Non-Fiction (We already covered summarizing, procedural, paragraphs)

    • Grammar: Etre and Avoir (Imparfait, Present, Future), Homophones (a-as-a, ont-on), Le negation (ne...pas), interrogation (?)

      • Previously covered but still used: Majucules, Noms communs, Noms propres, Ponctuation (.!?), masculin et feminin (m/f), les determinants


Listening:

Grade 4s

    • understand the meaning of oral French texts containing familiar vocabulary and expression

    • express his/her opinion about a variety of oral media texts about familiar topics

    • respond with understanding to what others say (teachers and peers)

    • use the appropriate attentive learning skills during class presentations and whole group learning


Speaking:

Grade 4s

    • use familiar words and expressions in planned and rehearsed speaking

    • speak with a smooth pace with appropriate punctuation in planned and rehearsed speaking

    • speak in French with others in class during class time

    • speak French during Science, social studies, health and drama/dance activities

    • engage in guided spoken activities like "Parlons Langue"

    • participate appropriately during whole-group activities (e.g., raising a quiet hand)
