Grade 4 Language

MORE LANGUAGE PROGRAM DETAILS

Teaching and Learning Strategies

Within Language Arts lessons, students will engage in small and large group learning as they critically think about the world around them. The Grade 4 and 5 Program themes for 45-1 are aligned to establish class community through the values of Respect and #Choosekind that are so important to all students. This alignment also allows learners to dig deeper into balanced literacy skills as connected learners while both grades share their insights with one another.

Assessment and Evaluation

Assessment and Evaluation will balance observations, conversation, and student work. The goal is to have students better understand concepts and show their highest most consistent performance. Throughout the major units, students will engage in Self and Peer Assessment prior to submitting their final pieces. Student-Teacher Conferences, Presentations, Culminating Projects will be assessed and used to develop grades. Checkbrics and/or rubrics based on the achievement chart will be used to evaluate tasks.

Unit Resources

Lessons will be using materials from Nelson Literacy, Pilgrim Wood Library, Oakville Public Library, and Google Apps for Education.
