PARENTS, this site is made for you!  Please know that I will do my best to keep you informed and to provide you with all of the information you will need to help support your child during this school year. This site will allow you to find answers to the questions you might have about your child's day, school events, HDSB links and some extra tidbits.  This is NOT your child's online home for assignments or classwork. Students will be looked after through Google Classroom.  This is your portal to our classroom. Please click here for more information regarding assignment expectations, tracking and book selection.

IXL Math - Grade 3 and Grade 4 for support and enrichment.  This is a great site that directly links students to the skills that we are working on in class, this additional work will help to build on their knowledge.  It is not suggested to pay for a membership, it can be utilized daily for FREE!

Student Supports for At Home

Some students will need extra support at home with our in-class learning and that may mean that they require some extra reinforcement of the content learned or some extra time with specific tasks. Other students may need extensions to satisfy their interest in learning more.  I hope that you will find the below links and suggestions helpful.

Reading

We will review the expectations around “reading-to-self” (read the whole time, no chatting, choosing a comfortable place and staying there, not using reading time for a washroom break or for sharpening pencils). Students will be building their reading STAMINA: doing anything for a long period of time without getting too tired or giving up.

A Parent's Guide to helping your child learn to read

Writing

Daily Writing - we will be working on responding to our Class Read Aloud, HE WHO DREAMS by Melanie Florence. Students will be introduced to the Writer's Workshop Wheel to complete their writing ... developing ideas, editing and extending writing stamina. Students will also be writing personal narratives that reflect experiences in their own lives and making connections to characters in a variety of books from other parts of the world and from different cultures.

Math

Students will begin the year with demonstrating their sense of number and exploring place value.  They will develop a comfort with discussing math, drawing out their ideas and comparing whole numbers as we begin to figure out where they've been with their math experiences and where we need to go next.

Google Classroom is a STUDENT tool for learning, working and completing activities and assignments. Parents do not have access to this.  HOWEVER, parents do have the option to be linked to their child's Google Classroom. Parents will receive an invite to Google Classroom in the email they have provided on the HDSB Verification form. Once the Classroom Student has accepted their invite then the parent/guardian invite will be given. I encourage all families to sign up for Google notifications and use it as one of the two primary communications pathways for information from our class to your home. Please see below for further information and instructions.
