Tips + Mistakes to avoid Introduction
Okay so I gave you guys some guides and some sportswear help, but what about some tips and mistakes to avoid? You may think you know everything about modest clothing, because all it is is covering yourself up without revealing much but not so fast! There’s much more to it than that.
Keep reading to see what tips you should keep in mind and what mistakes to avoid.
Tips
Accessorize modestly
You may not think of accessorizing modestly as that big of a deal, but it can really add some spice to your outfit. Totes as well as handbags are some pretty good options for accessories, as they maintain your modesty. By keeping a couple handbags, 1 for 2 days or 1 for each day can change the way you look. By matching a handbag with your outfit each day, it can add a level of fashion to it and plus, it can play as a ‘finishing piece’ in your outfit.
Use scarves to your advantage
Scarves are a nice if you want a nice little finishing touch to your modest outfit. While it may be a chic little add-on, it’s also nice to wear since it gives you some extra neck and chest coverage to avoid too much revealing skin.
Try maxi dresses
Maxi dresses are probably an essential when it comes to pulling off a modest fashion look. Since they cover pretty much everything, they can be pretty modest. These dresses can honestly be worn on any occasion, whether it’s a party or just a picnic at the park.
Remember, you can try floral or solid colour maxi dresses, it’s whatever you like girl!
Try palazzo pants
Since palazzo pants are pretty flowy and comfortable, they make great choices for warmer climates. They’re not tight fitting, so they’re a pretty good choice for a modest fashion look.
Try turtleneck tops
As I said before, turtleneck tops cover your neck, which means they give you an advantage in modest clothing. They are a good choice for winter since they will keep you warm. Turtleneck tops honestly give off a very chic and versatile look which is great for a fashionable look.
Wear ankle boots when you have cropped jeans
If you have a bit of cropped jeans and there’s absolutely nothing you think you can do about it, don't worry, I’ve got you covered. When you have some jeans that fall above your ankle which shouldn't be showing, add some ankle boots.
By adding them, you’re covering up your ankles and you’re also adding a finishing touch which will look so well put together with your outfit.
Wearing white leggings under your sheer white pants
Sometimes it so happens that your white jeans are just a bit see through or sheer, and that just won’t go well with your modest look.
So for this tip, if you have a problem like this one, try finding a pair of white leggings which will go under your jeans and cover up the see through fabric. You want to find white ones since if you get another colour, it might show through the jeans which will look pretty odd.
Mistakes to avoid
Wearing a white shirt under every outfit
It can be very tempting to wear a white shirt under every outfit you have which doesn’t have any sleeves like a sleeveless dress or a jumpsuit. Sure, maybe wear it occasionally but try not to be repetitive. It gives off a very dull vibe which won’t really be pleasing. INstead of constantly wearing a white shirt, try other patterns or colours which will match with your outfit.
Not thinking about the weather
Yes, layers are the key to dressing up modestly but that doesn’t mean you have to overly do it or constantly do it in the summer. Make sure when you’re layering in the summer for the fabric to be lightweight and breathable. Who knows, if not you might end up in a pool of sweat.
Not buying clothes based on your body type
Okay, I think it’s a common misconception that when dressing modestly everything has to be loose and boring. Well this is also a common mistake most people make. Even though you shouldn't reveal your body shape, curves or figure, you don’t want to wear something that poorly fits. They’ll either bunch ip or look completely dull.
Wearing too many bulky layers
Remember, when you’re putting together an outfit, make sure you’re not just throwing random items or layering pieces, that would just look ridiculous. Layering is a good idea and can look pretty nice when appropriate but too much layering is not the way to go. Know when you need to stop the layering, and know when you can add some into your outfit.
