In the junior years, students are encouraged to increase their independence and become accountable for their own learning. This includes staying on top of due dates, arriving prepared for all classes to the best of their abilities, developing positive problem solving techniques, collaborating with peers, etc. These life skills are particularly important as we begin to prepare students for the future!
Creating a classroom environment where everyone feels safe and included is a big focus for us here at P.L Robertson. We have ZERO tolerance for bullying. We do not expect that students will be friends with everyone, but we do EXPECT our students to be respectful towards others.
Information about 4/5FI
Importance of healthy mental health
Ensuring healthy mental health is more important now than ever before. We will be focusing on themes regarding how to stay healthy mentally throughout the year. I promote an inclusive and safe space in my classroom and encourage all my students to come to me with any issues or concerns they may have if they feel comfortable to do so.
Agendas and Absences
Students in class 4-1FI & 5-1FI will be receiving an angenda to help them stay on track. In grade four & five students will be primarily responsible for recording and tracking assignments in their student agenda. The use of the student agenda will be reinforced in our classroom, and checked on a regular basis.
Library protocols
Your child will be able to sign out books from the library this year! Students will have a weekly scheduled library visit where they will have the opportunity to check out books. It is expected that they check out both an English and French book. Students will need to keep a French and English book at school, but can bring extra books home. It is very important that they return them on their due date. Daily reading at home is also important. Feel free to have your child read online articles, graphic novels, movie reviews and any other texts that are of interest to your child. Any reading is good reading!
Technology
If students have a device they would like to bring to school they must fill out the Bring Your Own Device form. This form will be sent to families in the next few weeks. If students have their own cell phones they are expected to keep them in their school bags on airplane mode during school hours. If you need to contact your child during school hours please call the office. We have a wide range of technology at school that students will be able to use throughout the year. Students will be expected to use the technology responsibly.
