All kindergarten educators will be outside at 8:25 to start welcoming families. Please bring your child to one of the gates entering the kindergarten outdoor area. Once you have said your goodbyes, your child will be welcomed through the gate. When the bell rings at 8:40, the educators will line up the children to take them inside.

A staff member will be stationed at each gate to facilitate entry. Children can be dropped off at the kindergarten gates anytime between 8:25 and 8:40. Parents will not be permitted beyond the gates for security reasons. The entry bell rings at 8:40, at which time the gates will be locked and the children will be led inside the school for attendance. If you happen to arrive after the bell has rung and the gates are locked, please make your way to the office for an admittance slip.
Educators will be dismissing students at the end of the school day between 2:50 and 3:00 pm. The gates will be closed and educators will be dismissing the children directly to the parent or caregiver one by one at the gate entrance where you dropped off your child. This will guarantee that your child is leaving with the appropriate person. Please ensure your child's educators know who will be picking up and notify them if that changes.
When picking out a backpack for your child, please keep in mind all the things that will need to fit inside. It should be big enough to hold their lunch bag, water bottle, a library book, a spare sweater or spare mittens in the winter. Your child will also be bringing home artwork that will need to fit inside the backpack. Have your child practice putting things in and out of the backpack as well as unzipping and zipping it up.
In our school many students have allergies and some have life threatening allergies (anaphylaxis) to nuts, so NO peanuts, tree-nuts or Nutella spread please! Foods which contain or may contain nuts, MUST NOT be brought to school so please check the ingredients on all packaged foods your child brings to school. Keeping this in mind, there are NO TREATS (e.g., cupcakes, cookies, Tim-Bits etc.) to be brought in for any reason. Thank you for your understanding for the safety of our students.
Dress for the weather. Also, when sending your child to school please keep in mind their needs as they will dress/undress many times throughout the day. Before school starts, practice at home so that your child becomes more comfortable being independent in this aspect. Kindergarten is a hands-on program and your child's clothing is bound to become dirty. Please don't send your child to school in fancy clothes you would hate to see get dirty. Please label all clothing. It can be as simple as writing their initials with a sharpie on the label.
Please make sure you send your child to school with appropriate footwear for the weather as they will be spending a good amount of time outdoors. In the warmer months, flip flops are discouraged as they are not ideal for active play and can lead to injuries. Please send in a pair of non-marking rubber soled shoes that your child can keep at school. Slip on or velcro shoes are preferred even if your child is able to tie laces. This will eliminate any potential danger due to undone laces.
We kindly ask that toys be left at home. Toys from home can get lost or broken at school which then creates a very upsetting situation for your child. It is best to keep all toys at home, unless requested by the educators for a special activity or event.
If your child takes the bus to school, they will be picked up from the bus each morning by a staff member and walked to the Kindergarten pen area. At the end of the day, a staff member will also walk them to the bus. Kindergarten students are seated in the first few seats at the front of the bus. If your child automatically qualifies for bussing and you DO NOT wish them to take the bus, it is essential that you contact Halton Student Transportation Services to have them removed from the bus list. See this flyer for more information.
JK and new to SK students will receive their bus information by mail. You can view the route, times, and other busing information online at www.haltonbus.ca. On the first day of school, students will be given a bus tag with the students' bus stop outlined on the tag, indicating their pick up and drop off locations, as well as their bus colour.
