If your child takes the bus to school, they will be picked up from the bus each morning by a Kindergarten Educator and walked to their class. At the end of the day, a Kindergarten Educator will also walk them to the bus. Kindergarten students are seated in the first few seats at the front of the bus. If your child automatically qualifies for bussing and you DO NOT wish them to take the bus, it is essential that you contact Halton Student Transportation Services to have them removed from the bus list. See this flyer for more information. You must also let the office and your child's teacher know. It is essential that you keep the office and your child's teacher informed of all changes to their schedule (e.g., where they are going after school). Please remember that teachers are working with your children during the day, and often do not check their email until after the school day. If you have a last minute change to make, please call the office directly.
Maple Grove has a partnership with the Oakville YMCA. The YMCA offers a before and after school program for children in our building. This program is not run by Maple Grove Staff. Please contact the YMCA directly for more information. All registrations take place directly through the YMCA and not at the school.
Western Heights also provides before and after school child care in our community, and offers before school drop off at Maple Grove and after school pick up. Western Heights is not affiliated with Maple Grove or the HDSB. Please contact them directly for more information. All registrations take place directly through Western Heights.
For more information about child care in Halton, please check the Child Care Directory and Information Line
If you choose to bring your child to school on the first day, please DO NOT park in our parking lot, as this creates an unsafe situation. Please allow time to parking at Oakville Trafalgar High School or on a nearby side street that allows parking and walk from there. You may also wish to bike or walk to school with your child. For more information about parking at Maple Grove, please see this Parking Brochure.
Our Kiss N Ride is reserved for our Kindergarten students and their siblings. If you wish to use the Kiss N Ride, please follow the direction of staff.
Please pull forward all the way to make room for other vehicles.
Turn off and exit your vehicle.
Help your child exit your vehicle and close the door. A staff member will help your child to enter the Kindergarten Yard where there will be supervision by a Kindergarten educator.
Return to your vehicle and exit the parking lot to make room for other families who are dropping off their children.
Siblings of Kindergarten students may also exit the vehicle in the Kiss and Ride and walk along the sidewalk to the back of the school.
Parents are not permitted to drive to the back parking lot, as this is reserved for staff and buses. These rules are also in place on the first day of school.
You will receive an email with your child's class number and teacher after 4pm on Friday, August 29th.
Kindergarten teachers will meet their students in the Kindergarten Yard between 9:00-9:15 on the first day of school. They will have name tags prepared for each child. To help familiarize us with your child’s Entry and Dismissal routines for the first week, please print and bring this form with you on the first day of school. If there are changes to this schedule, please be sure to send a note to your child’s teacher or call the office and we will ensure that they get this information.
All Kindergarten students start full-time on the first day of school. To reduce separation anxiety, we encourage parents to drop their children off at the gate to the Kindergarten yard, give a QUICK kiss and a smile! Some children find this time harder than others, but experience shows that for most children, after a few minutes everyone settles in happily. We will have extra staff available to support children who are having more difficulty. Please remember that it is unsafe for adults to enter the Kindergarten Yard as it becomes more difficult to organize the children and to ensure that they join the right class.
If your child has Anaphylaxis, Asthma, Diabetes, Epilepsy or any other Prevalent Medical Condition that we should be aware of, please contact the school as soon as possible (magps@hdsb.ca) so we can create a plan of care.
Volunteer opportunities may include going on field trips, Kiss N Ride, helping with pizza day, planning for the Spring Fair, assisting in the Library, reading with students etc.
All volunteers require a Police Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening, therefore, you may wish to have this completed prior to the first day of school.
Once the Police Check is on file at the school, each year you will be asked to make an Annual Offence Declaration instead of submitting a new check.
If you are interested in becoming a Kiss N Ride volunteer or are interested in becoming an Emergency Lunch Supervisor, please contact our Vice Principal.
Our Youth Settlement Worker (YSW) provides support to ALL newcomer families as they navigate a new community and a new school system. YSWs help to connect families with community services to meet all of their settlement needs.
The YSW will provide answers to settlement related questions the family may have (e.g., ‘how to dress for winter’, ‘how to get involved in the school community’, ‘how to obtain a family doctor’).
