Please accompany your child/children to the Kindergarten pen which is located at the back of the school off of the parking lot.
Kindergarten students will be welcomed into the Kindergarten pen between 8:30 and 8:45.
As students arrive they will line up at their classroom door and wait until the bell at 8:45 for their educators to lead them into the classroom.
If you arrive after 8:45 you will need to bring your child to the office to sign them in.
Nutritional Breaks
Our school is a NUT-FREE environment.
Please do not send any of the following to school with your child;
peanuts, tree-nuts, or Nutella spread
Kindergarten Dismissal
Kindergarten students will be dismissed to guardians through the Kindergarten pen or Door 5 beginning at 2:50.
This is to help with the flow through the parking lot and to give guardians who are picking up two children the ability to pick up their Kindergarten child first and move to the other dismissal area to pick up their other child.
If your child is to attend an after school program they will be transitioned to the proper location.
Before and After School Care
The YMCA of Oakville runs a before and after school program at our school.
Please refer to the YMCA website for updates regarding September registration inquiries. They will be updating their website as new information is announced.
Take a peek inside the doors of the Kindergarten classrooms at James W. Hill to see all the wonderful things we get up to!
Inside the classroom ...
Our educator teams at James W. Hill work hard to support the development of self-regulation in our students through consistent routines and nurturing environments. Organized spaces with child-friendly tools and many opportunities for problem-solving will help children to learn and grow!
Getting to know each other ...
Your child will quickly understand that our classrooms are communities. We support our students to share their stories, support each other and work as a collaborative team. Students will feel safe, supported and comfortable to be who they are!
Learning and exploring through PLAY ...
Our kindergarten team supports students to learn through play. Research tells us that play nourishes every aspect of a child's development - it forms the foundation of intellectual, social, physical and emotional skills necessary for success in school and in life.
Learning activities designed by our team are meant to encourage the students to think creatively, explore and investigate, to solve problems, engage in the inquire process and share their learning with others.
Check out some examples of PLAY in FDK:
Outdoor Exploration ...
Spending time outdoors is a large part of our daily routine and our outdoor space is considered an extension of our classrooms. Outdoor play helps to encourage exploration, curiosity, questioning and inquiry skills.
Gross Motor in the Gym ...
We look forward to our weekly visits to JWH's gymnasium for the opportunity to practice new skills, follow the rules of organized games, increase our gross motor development and exercise our bodies. Moving and grooving in the gym is a lot of fun!
Kindergarten Displays ...
We love showing off our work! Our display boards help to share our work with the rest of the school and visiting parents. Keep your eyes peeled for new displays to check out our inquiries, interests and creative talents.
