Kindergarten Dismissal 3:00 pm
School staff will welcome and supervise the children in the Kindergarten play area between 8:25am and 8:40am.
Any arrivals after 8:40am must be processed in the school office.
At the end of the school day classes will come outside at 3:00pm with their educators and line up in their assigned dismissal spots.
Dismissal spots will be labelled with class codes on the first day of school. Please park your car in a proper parking spot in the lot or on the street and walk to your child's gate. Educators will dismiss children one by one to ensure they are safely released to caregivers/parents. The dismissal spots will remain the same for the duration of the year.
We will only dismiss children to the parent(s) or caregiver that you note at the beginning of school. Please inform us, in writing, if your child’s dismissal information changes during the year. Young children worry and have little concept of time, so we ask that you please pick up your child promptly at the 3:00 pm dismissal time.
1st Nutrition Break: 10:20-11:00 am
2nd Nutrition Break: 12:40-1:30 pm
Each day there will be two Nutrition Breaks during which your child will have time to eat their lunch/snacks. Packing a variety of options for your child to eat during these breaks will ensure they have enough to eat and have energy for their busy day. Please use containers that your child has practiced opening at home so that they are not waiting for an adult to help when they are hungry. We also recommend labeling any containers with your child's name. We do encourage healthy eating, so fruits and veggies are a great choice for snacks!
Please ensure that your child’s lunch is free from peanuts and other tree nut products as we have students with life-threatening allergies in our school.
If your child is going to be absent or late to school, please call our attendance line to report his or her late arrival at 1-877-409-6310 or online at hdsb.schoolconnects.com or using the SafeArrival SchoolConnects app. These absence reporting platforms are available 24 hours a day and are fully automated. The deadline for reporting absences is 9:00 am the day of the absence. If you don’t report your child’s absence, the system will call and ask you to respond with the reason your child is absent.
*You may wish to send notes to the teacher to inform them of your child’s absence in advance but you must still report the absence via phone, online or app.
When shopping for an appropriate school bag, please be mindful that it should be large enough to carry your child’s lunch bag , a large library book and sometimes extra outdoor clothing.
Kindergarten children participate in physical activities regularly. Running shoes are required for indoor activities for safety reasons. These running shoes will be kept at school for indoor use only. Please ensure that these shoes are clearly labeled with your child’s name.
Please label all items you send to school, including each piece in your child's set of extra clothes. Often children have similar items and in similar sizes and it is helpful to have a clear indicator as to who something belongs to!
It is very helpful if you practice independence with toileting and hand washing prior to attending school. Even though going to the toilet at home might be something your child does regularly, using the washroom at school can be challenging. Having practice at home and in other washrooms can help your child feel more confident and lead to a smoother transition in this area.
