Welcome to Hawthorne Village! We are so excited for your child to begin their learning journey with us!
Our school day starts at 9:15 am. Supervision in the Kindergarten play area is from 9:00 - 9:15 am.
If you choose to drive your child to school, you must park on a city street and walk them to Door 16. They will be greeted by a supervising teacher in an orange and yellow vest, and then join their class for entry.
It is important that students arrive on time to enter the school with their classmates—this reinforces routine and provides the best possible start to the day for your child, as well as the class as a whole. Students who take the bus will be met by a teacher on duty in the morning and led to the appropriate bus line at the end of the day.
What your child needs to bring to school
Easy to Fasten Running shoes (e.g., Velcro) Please label them for easy identification. These shoes will stay at school. No laces unless the child can tie laces independently.
Spare clothes: labelled pants, underwear, socks, shirt (please place in a large labelled Ziploc bag).
Lunch Bag: well labelled containers that are easy to open. Have your child practice opening and closing them over the summer. A water bottle labelled.
Nutrition Breaks
We have two nutrition breaks (10:55 am and at 1:15 pm) each day and we ask you to divide your child’s food accordingly. Each break is 40 minutes long. Please remember to pack healthy food and snacks in easy to open clearly labelled containers.
Please note that some classrooms also have open snack times where students may have a snack during class time if they are hungry.
At Hawthorne Village we are a Nut Free school (e.g., no peanut butter or substitutes, Nutella, or nuts of any kind). Please be sure to read all labels to avoid sending food which contains peanuts or peanut oils. We always encourage healthy eating. Some healthy nut free snacks your child can bring to school include: cut up vegetables, fruit, cheese, crackers, yogurt, peanut/nut free granola bars, popcorn and sandwiches.
Outdoor Supervision
Every day your child will spend up to 90 minutes outside in our Outdoor Classroom (the fenced in Kindergarten area). They should arrive at school dressed appropriately for the weather.
Students will be supervised by classroom teachers and/or the lunchroom supervisors while outdoors in the Kindergarten area.
