As the first day of Kindergarten approaches, talk about what it will be like with your child. Let them know that you will drop them off and then pick them up again. Maybe visit the school grounds. Walk around to the back and see the kindergarten fenced area. Show them where they will wait to meet their teachers. Allow your child to ask questions.
Read some books to help get ready. Here are a few great book suggestions
Miss. Bindergarten gets Ready for Kindergarten by Joseph Slate
First Day by Dandi Daley Mackall
It is our experience that quick goodbyes and a reassurance that you will be back soon are the easiest for children. The long walk to the kindergarten door is made much harder when parents linger and crowd by the door. Show your children you are confident that "they've got this" from the very first day.
You can arrive with your child as early as 8:30 each morning but please be available to stay with your child for the first few days to help with a smooth and safe entry. When you arrive for pick up at the end of the day, please meet us outside of door number 11. Please wait patiently behind the sign with your child’s class name on it, as we dismiss one and a time.
Label, Label, Label. Please label all items being sent into school.
Practise having lunch a few times using your lunchbox and containers. It's fun to practise and helps your child become more familiar with opening and closing zippers and containers.
Please send labelled indoor shoes that your child can independently put on and take off. Slip on or velcro are best. Please no laces!
