Elsie MacGill Secondary School

Cooperative Education

Co-operative Education is an opportunity for students to explore a career or industry of interest by completing an experiential learning opportunity. Students will be connected with a community partner to complete their placement. By gaining industry specific skills relevant to the career chosen and networking with various professionals a true understanding of that workplace will be developed. In addition, students will also grow and improve general employability skills that can service them in any future employment and/or educational opportunities. Within the context of their experience connected to community partner, students will apply, extend, and refine skills through self reflection and demonstration in their placement.

Hello, I am Ms. O'Rourke your Co-Op Teacher at Elsie MacGill

I love co-op and have been teaching it for many years. I believe co-op can provide such a valuable learning experience for all students. It is a great way for people to try out careers or industries they have a passion for working within. The skills you can develop in a co-op course and workplace will be invaluable as you move forward in the world of work and any post secondary destinations. You can network and make connections with professionals in your chosen field that can last a life time. The co-op work environment can look like so many different things but the goal is to have you hands on, fully immersed in a workplace outside of school, and develop into an important part of the company you are with.
