Target games/skill development
Our next unit would be working on hitting a target with different objects from varying distances. Below are a couple of activities you can do at home to build your skills.
TIMED BUCKET TOSS:
*Using any objects in the house your goal is to get as many of the in the bucket/container as possible in the time allotted.
Set up: Using a bucket, or box, of large container (large soup pot, empty flower pot, etc); objects to throw (balled up socks, beanbags, tennis balls, shoes, empty bottles or pop cans, etc)
Task:
-Set your container up at a distance (you can move it further back after trying for the first round).
-lay out your objects so you can grab them quickly.
-set a timer for 1 minute
-throw the items one at a time and try to get them into the container.
-keep track of how many you get in during the time.
-Move the container back a little further and try to get in more than you did the minute before.
Strategies/things to think about:
*consider what sort of throw might be best (overhand, underhand)
*think about how much power/force to put behind the throw
*consider how high or low you are bringing your arm to follow through after the throw
*think about how fast you might need to throw to get to the target.
THROWING FOR POINTS:
*Using any objects in the house your goal is to score the most points by throwing to specific targets.
Set up: Use skipping ropes, or towels, or draw lines in chalk on the driveway, or hockey sticks, etc); objects to throw (balled up socks, beanbags, tennis balls, shoes, empty bottles or pop cans, etc)
Task:
Set your markers (sticks, towels, etc) up at different distances from your starting point.
-pick different points for each marker.
-throw the items one at a time and try to get them as close as you can to each marker.
-keep track of your points for 10 throws.
-try to get the highest score possible.
-make 10 throws at least 3 times and see what your highest score is.
Strategies/things to think about:
*consider what sort of throw might be best (overhand, underhand)
*think about how much power/force to put behind the throw
*consider how high or low you are bringing your arm to follow through after the throw
*think about how fast you might need to throw to get to the target
*consider what throws would help you get the highest score
