Academic Assessments @ Boyne

As a follow-up to a School Team meeting, it may be recommended that one of the resource teachers complete some academic testing with your child to gain a better understanding of their abilities. Results are shared with parents and classroom teachers in order to help with planning next steps for students.

WFAS (Wechsler Fundamentals: Academic Skills)

Includes testing in the areas of spelling, numerical operations and reading (decoding and comprehension). The testing is completed in a quiet environment and can be broken down into smaller segments and over extended periods of time. The WFAS assessment is a standardized test and is compared to same-aged peers. There is no preparation for this assessment and it is solely based on the student’s current developmental abilities.

KeyMath

Looks closely at all of the math strands including problem solving. The format of the test is built on the foundation of problem solving and the questions are scaffolded to ensure student success. The test is standardized and results are compared to same-aged peers. Not every strand of math will need to be assessed, as it varies depending on the needs of the student. The test will be completed individually and in a quiet environment. The test can be divided up and presented over an extended period of time.
