Why should I apply to be a Link Leader?

Our hope is that you want to be a link leader because you want to make a difference in your school. Our mission is to build a kinder Aldershot. We hope that you are applying because you want to support that.

It is true that Link Crew is an international program and is a well-known and well- respected leadership program in many countries like USA, Canada, China, South Korea and more. It is also true that there are certain scholarships connected to Link Crew. However, we hope that you are applying because you want to make a positive change by building positive relationships rather than building your resume.

Where does Link Crew come from?

Do you need to get a teacher nomination to apply for Link Crew?

Nope. The purpose of the teacher nominations is to get some great people applying. However, teachers don't always know who the best leaders are. There is lots of great positive leadership happening that teachers don't see. Know a friend who would be a great leader? They can apply. Think you might have some leadership potential? Go ahead and apply.

Do I need to have good grades to apply to be a link leader?

Great grades do not necessarily make great leaders. Yup, often great leaders have good grades, but there are also great leaders who don't have great grades. We look at a lot of things in selecting our leaders, but we will not be looking at your grades.

What are you looking for in a leader?

Qualities we are looking for in Leaders are:

• strong communication skills

• willingness to lead others

• responsible enough to manage a group

• accountable to show up throughout all phases of the program during the year

• willing to take risks

• interest in helping others

• positive role model

• dedicated

• self-confident and self-directed

• has respect for diverse ideas and personalities

• enthusiastic

How are Link Leaders chosen?

Each leader that applies is given a score from one or more of their teacher references and a score for their application and a score based on what we know about the core leadership traits above. These scores are looked at by a committee who make the final decision.

How many leaders are you going to take?

The number of leaders changes based on the number of grade 9s, but it is generally between 30 and 50 leaders.
