Hello Acton Families!
Happy New Year to all! I hope everyone enjoyed the snow day yesterday and managed to dig out from our first major snowfall of the season.
We are winding down semester 1 for secondary students as we approach the start of exams next week. Please make sure you are aware of the dates and times of your student’s exams and ensure they arrive to school on time. Of course, please do not make any appointments for your student during the exam week. Finding a quiet place for study in your home with minimal interruptions will help to give them the best chance at reviewing the course content and building confidence to tackle each exam.
In the event that we see another major storm, Wednesday January 28th has been reserved for make-up exams cause by inclement weather. If we cancel a day of exams that day’s schedule will be placed onto Wednesday.
Over the past couple of weeks I have been a thrilled fan while watching our girls’ volleyball teams. Acton has had a long-standing tradition of champion volleyball players and these girl are continuing that tradition. Some of the games were heart-stopping. The team spirit and sisterhood was strong both in play and off the court. I have included some pictures to show you their athletic prowess. Thank you to wonderful coaches John Leckie and Meggan Flynn. Serve it up girls, serve it up!
Parking Lot Safety Reminder
Please be aware that our parking lot is extremely busy during school entry and dismissal times. Whenever possible, we encourage students to walk to school.
If you are driving your child to school, or if students are driving themselves, please drive slowly and remain alert for pedestrians at all times. Extra caution is especially important during the winter months and on days with inclement weather. Arriving a few minutes early can help reduce congestion and delays.
Please remember:
Do not park in no-idling zones
Do not park in the fire zone at the front of the school
Pick up's please park in a parking spot at the side of the school to meet your student
For everyone’s safety, please refer to the map above for designated Elementary and Secondary student drop-off zones.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school community safe.

Grade 7 & 8 Skating adventures!
We’d like to extend a HUGE thank you to Mr. Mitchell for organizing skating for all Grade 7 & 8 classes throughout January and the first part of February! We had our first visit to the Acton arena this week and it was very successful. Everywhere you looked, students were helping each other tie skates, get back up after a tumble and generally having a blast on the ice. It was a wonderful experience and we look forward to strengthening our skating skills in the weeks to come.
We’re excited to share that Food Days will continue for the remainder of the school year, beginning the week of February 2!
Weekly Schedule:
Monday: Quesada
Tuesday: Mum’s Fish and Chips
Wednesday: Flame Kitchen

Friday: Mum’s Chicken Tenders & Fries
Orders will be available through School Cash Online. Each food day will be listed separately, so families can pick and choose the days that best suit them.
Be sure to watch for ordering details and weekly cut-off times on School Cash Online.

CANADA MEETS SPAIN: Exchange Opportunity for 2026 - 2027 School Year
Dear Parents / Guardians and Students,
The Halton District School Board in partnership with Canada International Student Placement Inc. (CISPI) and Ken’s Education Group is pleased to offer a reciprocal exchange opportunity to Valencia, Spain during the 2026-2027 school year. Valencia is a coastal city on the Mediterranean Sea.
This program is for students entering Grade 9 or Grade 10 next school year who want to travel and experience international education in a safe comfortable setting with the support of HDSB and our Canadian and Spanish partners in international education.
Exchange programs provide students with valuable cultural and educational experiences in Canada and abroad, fostering international friendships and authentic learning experiences.
Students will live with their matched family and attend school in the Valencia area during the exchange. Tentative dates have the Spanish youth arriving in Canada and living with you for 3 weeks in mid September to early October 2026. Then our HDSB students travel to Spain to be hosted there by participating families for 3 weeks in February of 2027. The cost of this program designed to build respect, integrity, independence, friendship and peace is $2250 + the flight.
A virtual information session is being held on Monday January 26, 2026 at 7:00 pm.
Please confirm your interest in the program and attendance at the virtual information meeting by completing the following form: Exchange Program Information Session (a virtual meeting link will be shared with those who have completed the form).
Regards,
HDSB International Student Program

The Ontario Career Lab, supported by the Ministry of Education, is coming to our school!
This program connects Grade 9 and 10 students with real-world professionals to explore career pathways and gain valuable insight.
The grade 10s met career coaches in the fall and now the grade 9s get a turn.
We’re looking for parents and guardians to volunteer as Career Coaches at our upcoming school event on February 11th (morning) for Grade 9 students. It’s a chance to share your career journey, inspire students, and help them imagine what’s possible for their future. The reason we like to have Acton parents and community members is primarily because we like to emphasize the local connection we have with our community.
Interested? Fill out this quick Expression of Interest form and the Ontario Career Lab will reach out to you with further details.
The event itself will happen for all grade 9s
Date: Wednesday, February 11th
Time: 10:05-11:20am (Secondary period 2)
Location: Cafeteria
If you have any further questions, please contact Mr Brown. brownsh@hdsb.ca
Transfer Schools within the HDSB
Out of area transfer request (transferring schools) is the process where students can apply to attend a school other than the school designated for their area of residence.
The Halton District School Board encourages students to attend their designated school but students can apply to a school outside of their home school if there is enough space to accommodate them. Students who transfer to another school are not eligible for Board provided transportation.
Applications are being accepted from Jan. 5-Feb.27 2026 and can be submitted to your home school.
For a list of open school and to obtain a copy of the application, visit the HDSB website: https://www.hdsb.ca/schools/transfer-schools-within-the-hdsb/
🏀 Important Notice: Spectator Entry for Sporting Events
To maintain the safety of our students and ensure that the final period of the day remains focused and uninterrupted, we have a policy regarding entry for athletic events.
Parents and spectators are not permitted to enter the school building for sporting events until the end of the school day at 3:20 PM.

Secondary Pizza Day May 15th, 2025
Parents/guardians who withdraw students during school time are advised that, depending on the timing and length of the absence, academic performance of your student may be affected. It is the student’s responsibility to catch-up on missed work.
In secondary school, any absence that is longer than 3 consecutive days is referred to as an extended absence. If you know that your student will be away for more than 3 consecutive school days, please print this Planned Absence Form and fill it in with the information requested 2 weeks prior to the planned absence (hard copies are available in the office). Students should ask their parent/guardian and teachers to fill in the form and once it is complete, the form should be handed in at the main office. The Vice Principal will then review the form and it will be given to the attendance Administrative Assistant for attendance to be entered (absences longer than 3 days are not able to be entered into School Messenger by parents). If you have any questions about this process, please reach out to the main office at 905-847-6875. Thank you.
