Q: Where do I login to do my schoolwork?
A: Imagine Edgenuity: https://auth.edgenuity.com/Login/Login/Student
Q: How should I pace my coursework? Do I have to work on all my classes at once?
A: Pacing is key to success in this program. Students have to work on each course on the first day of school for attendance and enrollment requirements. After day one, students can choose to focus on and finish one course at a time.
Standard Pacing: The standard course pacing is set for an average workload of six courses per semester. With 18 weeks in a semester, this means you should aim to complete one course approximately every three weeks. Please adjust your personal pacing based on your specific courseload.
Recommended Focus: Completing one course at a time is highly recommended. This allows you to focus and finish all requirements for one subject before moving to the next.
Exception for Student-Athletes: Students participating in athletics must work on all their courses concurrently in order to maintain athletic eligibility.
Q: What happens if I fail or don't pass a quiz or test?
A: The standard policy is to allow any student a second opportunity to retake an assessment with a score below 60%. Retakes are not for scores above 60%.
Q: What happens if I don't finish a course?
A: All courses must be 100% complete for "Gradable Activities" in order to earn credit. Any course not 100% complete results in a failing grade.
Q: How do I take my final exams?
A: Final exams must be proctored (supervised) by the Distance Ed teacher, Mr. Budd. Students can take final exams at the Distance Ed classroom, no appointment necessary. ONLINE FINAL EXAMS are available by scheduling an appointment using the shared calendar on the website homepage.
Q: What is the attendance policy for this class?
A: Our class uses a weekly attendance model based on student engagement. Attendance is recorded at the end of the school day every Friday.
To be marked "present" for the week, a student must complete the following by Friday:
Log into our Edgenuity platform and make progress by completing activities.
Communicate directly with the teacher (weekly check-in form, in-person, via email, or by phone).
Q: What if the instructions tell me to write a report or create a slideshow using Microsoft Word or PowerPoint, but I don't have that software?
A: You can use Google Docs in place of Microsoft Word and Google Slides in place of Microsoft PowerPoint. Google Apps are free to use and can be found in your school account using the Google App Launcher.
Q: What if a student is sick or can't log in?
A: If a student is unable to complete work, the student or a parent/guardian must contact the teacher or D.E. staff before attendance is taken on Friday to be marked present. Important: Because attendance is based on this weekly engagement, it is finalized every Friday. Once attendance has been submitted, it cannot be changed or excused for the previous week.
Q: What is the policy on Academic Integrity? Can I use Google or ChatGPT?
A: All written work you submit must be your own work. It's perfectly ok to use Google, ChatGPT, or other AI to gather information, but you must paraphrase and use your own words for your assignments.
Do not copy/paste. This is considered cheating.
Consequences: If plagiarism is found, you could lose your enrollment in Distance Learning and face disciplinary action. This may include a failing grade and the revocation of future Distance Learning opportunities at HCSD.
Q: Do I need to make an appointment for final exams?
A: It depends on how you plan to take the exam. All final exams are password-protected and must be supervised (proctored) by teaching staff.
To take the exam IN-PERSON: No appointment is necessary. You can take your exam at the Distance Learning Center during its open hours.
To take the exam ONLINE: Yes, you must schedule an appointment for online proctoring. Online exams require you to have access to a computer with a working camera and microphone. Please use this link to book your time: Finals Calendar Link
Q: What happens if I don't finish the course by the end of the semester?
A: To successfully complete the course, all gradable assignments must be 100% finished as measured by "Progress Gradable" activities in the platform. Any course that is not 100% complete by the final due date will result in an "F" for the course. If the course is required for graduation, the student will have to retake the entire course.
Q: What's the best way to contact the teacher if I have more questions?
A: We're here to help! Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
