Wildcat Book Clubs

What are Wildcat Book Clubs?

Wildcat Book Clubs are a fun way for students to read and enjoy books together. They are intended to foster connection through literature and a love of reading among West students. Students who join will be placed in a small group with a parent leader who will facilitate the group's discussion of the assigned book.

How do I sign up for Wildcat Book Clubs?

Talk with your child about their interest. By signing up, it is a commitment to read all 4 books and participate in all 4 lunchtime meetings. You may sign up your child by completing this form by Friday, September 8, 2023. Contact Mrs. Carroll if you have any questions.

When are the meetings?

Meetings take place 4 times this year, during lunch and lunch recess. Leaders are on campus from 11:45am to 12:45pm on Book Club dates. Students will eat together while they discuss the book they read. Fifth graders meet on Wednesdays, while fourth graders meet on Thursdays.

4th grade meeting dates: 9/27; 10/25; 1/31; 4/24 (Wednesdays)

5th grade meeting dates: 9/28; 11/2; 1/25; 4/19 (Thursdays)

Who can sign up?

Any 4th or 5th grader may sign up--being a strong reader is not an essential element of participating in Wildcat Book Clubs. However, finishing every book prior to the meetings is essential, whether someone reads the book to the student, the student listens to the story, or the student reads the book independently.

Who can lead a group?

Parents of 4th and 5th graders are encouraged to sign up.  By signing up, you are committing to join us for all 4 meetings. We aim to have one parent leader for every 4-5 students who participate. Parent volunteers will receive resources before the first meeting.
