Art With Mrs. Allen

Welcome to The Happy Little Art Room's Information Page!
Below you will find all the important information you will need for your child to succeed in Art during the school year!

*New this year!*
We are piloting a digital portfolio program called Artsonia. Students will upload images of the artwork they create in art class. Families that are connected to a student can leave comments on the artwork, or purchase merchandise like t-shirts, mugs, keychains, etc. with their child's artwork on them! 20% of the purchase is given to the art room to help purchase fun supplies!

Art Supplies at Home

While school supply shopping, it may be a great idea to buy art supplies to create your own art kit at home! This is completely optional and not required, but I do recommend these items to start your own art kit. The items on the list are commonly used items in the art room and available at stores like Walmart, Target, Office Max, Michael's, Joann Fabrics, Five Below, and even the Dollar Tree!

Some other fun supplies you may want to purchase are oil pastels, chalk pastels, gel pens, metallic markers, glitter, model magic, yarn & more! There is no right or wrong way to create an art supply kit!

How can I help my Child Create at home?

Some Tips and Tricks for Homeschool Art:

1. Encourage your child in their artwork! Everyone needs a boost now and then. I have very high expectations for craftsmanship, so should you! That being said, don’t be afraid to push them to add more detail, color, or focus as needed.

2. Have a conversation with your child about their art. They will tell you the coolest things.

3. Hang it up! It may seem like a small thing, but putting your child's art on the fridge (or windows), means loads to them.

4. Use Art as an incentive. If you're having trouble getting your child to complete their core subjects, use art as a reward for a productive day.

5. Use Art as a break. Our students look forward to Specials classes all week. Being able to express themselves creatively, might be just the thing they need to recoup from a difficult day.

6. Be kind to yourself. We are all in this together. Do the best you can.
