There are numerous benefits to be gained from engaging in physical activity, and it is recommended children are active for at least 60 minutes every day.
According to the CDC, benefits of regular physical activity include improving cardiorespiratory fitness, building strong bones and muscles, controlling weight, reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression, and reducing the risk of health conditions such as heart disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, and obesity.
Furthermore, students who are physically active tend to have better grades, school attendance, cognitive performance, and classroom behaviors. To help South Tigers reach the goal of at least 60 minutes of activity per day, students are encouraged to participate in monthly “Activity Calendars.” Students completing 20 or more activities, with each one initialed by a parent, can turn in calendars by the due date and be recognized in front of the whole school.
