WRITING/GRAMMAR: Students will learn grammar/English using our Voyages textbook. Students will be tested/quizzed on the different skills they learn this year. One major writing project (along with smaller, informal ones) will be completed each trimester. Students will become familiar with the writing process!
READING: Vocabulary: Vocabulary Workshop; quizzes; working on using context clues to define words
Reading Series: We will be using supplemental resources along with Novels throughout the year. Students will have novel study folders.
LISTENING AND SPEAKING: The Goal is to help enhance students’ listening skills and help them become more comfortable speaking to an audience, using the appropriate rules of our spoken language. This also includes being respectful of others that participate.
What to expect for not following classroom/school wide rules:
In our homeroom, I use a Teacher vs Student point system. Basically, if they are on task, they earn points. If I have to raise my voice or notice a class wide behavior that I have to correct, I give myself a point. At the end of the week, I judge by the points (for all of my ELA classes) which grade earned the most points and reward them for that given week. It typically will be a homework pass, a small treat, etc.
Infractions are sent out daily from the FACTS system after 4:00pm.
There will be a new Uniform infraction form this coming school year that teacher will use for anyone out of uniform, or incorrectly dressed on school days.
Phones will be put into a drawer each morning. This is not a choice. If the students bring a phone, it will be put away safely and only allowed for use if there is an emergency or some other issue that will be decided upon on a particular basis.
