Selection Criteria
The criteria used to evaluate resources on this website align with HCPSS policy 8040 in that they must be accurate and updated, accessible for all students, inclusive, and serve their intended purpose. Specifically, they should be:
Purposeful: aligns content with an intended purpose that supports HCPSS curriculum
Accurate: includes accurate information
Accessible: has been universally designed and/or have content accessible in multiple formats
Updated: is current and updated regularly
Inclusive: represents contrasting points of view or multiple interpretations of content and respect the pluralistic nature and diversity of a global society
Public Domain, Fair Use and Copyright
Public Domain:
Creative work that's not copyrighted and free to use without permission
Fair use:
The ability to use copyrighted work without permission, but only in certain ways and specific situations
Four factors of Fair Use:
amount (only use a small amount)
purpose (has to be a new purpose)
nature (better if the nature is nonfiction or fact)
effect (effect or result should not be to make money)
Copyright:
Legal protection that creators have over the things they create - ask people before you use their stuff
Almost everything on the internet is copyrighted.
