Transition Information for Parents/Guardians and other Stakeholders
Welcome! My name is Laura Parsons and I am the Work Study/Transition teacher at Howard High School. This is my 32nd year in the Howard County Public School System. I began working in Howard County as a paraprofessional while I was completing my teaching certification. I officially began my teaching career as a middle school ALS classroom teacher and after 10 years in middle school I transitioned to High School and started the ALS program at Howard High. After 3 years as a high school ALS classroom teacher, I became the Work Study teacher/ Transition Specialist.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science with a minor in French. I continued my education after this to earn my teaching certification in Secondary Special Education. I also completed my Master's Degree in Special Education during my first year teaching and recently completed my Admin I certification. I have my National Board Certification as an Exceptional Needs Specialist K-age 21.
I enjoy discovering the strengths and interests of all students and helping them become successful in their future endeavors regardless of the path they choose - College, Career, and Community ready!

Transition Planning Guides
Each guide provides information to students, parents/guardians, educators, and community agencies about the transition process. Although every student will have individualized transition goals and outcomes, each guide provides “preliminary” information about the requirements of the transition process under the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) as well as recommended strategies/resources to acquire a positive outcome. If your looking for transition guides in multiple languages, visit the MD Dept of Education Parent Information Series found here.
