New Enrollments - WELCOME to Marriotts Ridge High School
Welcome to Marriotts Ridge High School! We are pleased to have you as part of the Mustang family. In hopes of making your transition to MRHS as smooth as possible, we encourage you review the HCPSS flyer about Canvas. Parents and students have access to the Canvas Learning System, which includes the grade book (assignments and assignment scores).
Registrations are a multistep process, including online registration. Please visit www.hcpss.org/enroll to begin the registration process.

Academic Eligibility
For high school, a full-time student earns academic eligibility to participate in extracurricular activities by maintaining a 2.0 grade-point average (GPA), calculated using credit or non-credit courses, with no more than one failing grade for the marking period which governs eligibility for that activity (Policy 9070 - Academic Eligibility for High School Extra Curricular Activities).
Fall sport eligibility – For incoming 9th grade students, all students are eligible for fall athletics. For all returning students, eligibility is determined by the final marking period grades of the preceding June.
Winter sport eligibility – Determined by the grades earned on the closest report card issued prior to November 15.
Spring sport eligibility – Determined by the grades earned on the closest report card issued prior to March 1.
Non-athletic activities are determined by the grades earned on the closest report card to the date of the clubs initial activity.

Students are expected to attend school. However, when students are unable to attend school, please email an absence note to:
Please reference the HCPSS Policy 9010 - Attendance for clarification between lawful (excused) and unlawful (unexcused) absences. If a student is lawfully absent beyond 5 school days, a doctor's note must be provided. Upon a student's return from an excused absence, the student has the same number of school days absent to make up their work for full credit..
Note: Students are allotted up to 3 Local Discretion Days each school year for reasons such as travel, college visits, internship/scholarship interviews, etc, all of which would otherwise be unlawful. Please complete the HCPSS Local Discretionary Absence/Request Form for such absences.
AP Exams
It is recommended that any student taking an AP course take the corresponding AP exam in May 2024. For early planning, families can access the AP exam window through the CollegeBoard website linked here. Please check back for up-to-date information regarding the registration process for the 2023-2024 school year.
Students have until 3/11/2024 to sign up for an AP Exam. However, at this point in time, there will be a $40 late Fee.

AP Exam Waiver Fee Criteria
The following students will not have to pay for AP exams this year:
Students who are eligible for an AP Exam Fee Reduction.

The Blueprint for Maryland’s Future law also requires students who meet the Maryland State Department of Education College and Career Readiness (CCR) standard in both English and mathematics to have free access to AP testing.
Students and parents can access the HCPSS Connect system (http://www.hcpss.org/connect/ Standardized Test Scores Tab) to review the scores for the English and mathematics exams. Fees will automatically not be charged to students who meet both the English and mathematics standard. SAT data will continue to be added as students assess during the year.
Below are the CCR standards:
English Requirement: Earned a Performance Level 2 or 3 on the Early Fall 2021 English 10 exam or a 3 or 4 on the Spring 2022, Winter 2022/23 or Spring 2023 English 10 exam.
AND
Math Requirement: Earned a Performance Level 2 or 3 on the Early Fall 2021 MCAP Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra II exam, 3 or 4 on the Spring 2022, Winter 2022/23, or Spring 2023 MCAP Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra II exam, earned 4 or 5 on the PARCC Algebra 1, Geometry, or Algebra II exam, or earned a minimum score of 520 on the math section of the SAT.

Students taking JumpStart release in the fall are expected to continue with JumpStart courses in the srping in order to maintain the JumpStart release.
