Testing Dates are as follows for the Classes of 2020, 2019, 2018:

  • Must test before leaving for summer break in order to tryout on August 9, 2017. Sign up Here
    • It is up to the coach after June testing if they want to test in August. To be safe please make sure you test in June.

ImPACT concussion baseline test is a test of cognitive function including memory and reaction time. The purpose of the testing is to determine normal brain function levels that later can be used to help determine when it is appropriate for the athlete to safely return to play in the event of a head injury.

The Howard County Public School System procedures required all student athletes who wish to try out for a contact/collision sport to take ImPACT prior to trying out.

Even if a student is considering trying out for a FALL sport, he/she should take advantage of testing in May and June. If a student does not take the ImPACT test prior to trying out this could jeopardize his/her chances of making the team.

Testing should take approximately 45-60 minutes

Students will answer and be tested on:

  • Demographic/Concussion History
  • Concussion Symptom Scale
    • 21 Item Likert scale (e.g. headache, dizziness, nausea, etc)
  • Eight Neurocognitive Measures
  • Measures domains of Memory, Working Memory, Attention, Reaction Time, Mental Speed, Verbal Memory, Visual Memory, Reaction Time, Processing Speed - Summary Scores
