Funky art expresses itself by bold colors, imaginative themes, and a playful or irreverent approach to subject matter.  It can come off as quirky or strange, but it is quite the fascinating art style to see and experience.  It is an art style committed to passionate and excited energy. 

It originated in the Bay Area of Northern California in the 1950s and 1960s. It uses neon and bright, significant colors. Often using warm-colored light sources.

Funk artists used an unlikely mixture of materials and techniques, including found objects, as a reaction against the nonobjectivity of abstract expressionism.
