Meet

Mrs. Thompson

I graduated from Meredith College with a degree in Child Development and my certification to teach elementary school. I met my husband, who is from Henderson County, while in Raleigh. We moved from Raleigh to the mountains in 2002.

This is my fifteenth year teaching in Henderson County. I have taught kindergarten and first grade all 16 of those years! I love working with younger elementary children. I believe that children learn best by doing...which is not often quiet! If you stop by you will find children working in groups and spending a great deal of time investigating different topics throughout our school day. I try to make our learning hands on so that the children stay engaged!

While teaching and being in the classroom is great fun for me, I also enjoy spending time with my family. I have two children, Steven and Katie. Both of my children are at Dana with me! When we are not at school we all enjoy going for walks or hikes in the many state parks we have in the area. I also enjoy gardening...both with plants in my yard and plants we get to eat! I am an avid reader as well. I enjoy reading books for pleasure and for learning. You will almost always find at least 2 or 3 books on my night stand!

I appreciate you trusting me to teach your child! I hope that your child has a great year and that he or she grows in their love of learning!
