The Hanover Center for Trades and Technology application opens in October and closes January 15 for current 10th and 11th grade students for next school year.

Please complete this application by January 15th if you are interested in any of the following programs.

• Automotive Technology

• Carpentry

• Cosmetology

• Culinary Arts

• Electricity

• HVAC/R

An Open House is held one evening in January.

The Specialty Center at Hanover High School offers a Firefighting course.  Students applying must be rising 11th or 12th graders in good standing per Hanover County Fire-EMS polies and standards.

The application is due by January 15 for consideration for the following school year. 

Please note the following criteria and recommendations.

• Students must be 16 years old on the first day of class to be eligible. 

• Rising 11th or 12th grade

• This is a strenuous, physically demanding, yet rewarding program that makes successful students eligible to become fully State-Certified firefighters.

• Successful students will walk away with four state certifications and the foundation for a career in the fire service.

• This college level class is not scaled down because it is a high school program.

• Due to the inherent danger of fighting fire, the same physical and educational requirements of the career must be upheld.

• Students will have many physically demanding classes and will be placed under emotional stress to simulate working in extreme circumstances.  As a result, successful students must be academically, physically, and mentally strong.

• This class is not for indifferent students trying to fill their schedule, it is intended for fully committed individuals with drive and perseverance.
